On the evening of May 11, a working group of Traffic Police Team No. 3, including Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Duc Canh (Team Leader) and Captain Nguyen Cong Hiep, was on duty to ensure traffic safety at the Huynh Thuc Khang - Lang Ha intersection (Dong Da District, Hanoi) when they discovered three boys around 10 years old leading two bicycles, looking tired and possibly lost.

The working group quickly approached the children and brought them to the checkpoint to ask about the situation and some necessary information.
During the initial discussion, the children said their names were Nguyen TT, Nguyen TD and Nguyen TV (all born in 2013; cousins). That afternoon, the three brothers invited each other to go cycling but then got lost and could not remember the way home. Because they were quite tired and worried, the information they provided was somewhat fragmentary.
The Traffic Police Task Force then reported the incident to the unit commander and proceeded to verify the information provided. At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, the children's families arrived at the headquarters of Traffic Police Team No. 3 to pick up their children.

The children's parents said that the children invited each other to go out, but by evening the father had not returned home, so the family was very worried and tried to look for them everywhere but to no avail. "Our family was very happy when we received a phone call from the officers of Traffic Police Team No. 3 informing us that the children were being taken care of safely at the unit's headquarters," said Nguyen Van T. (father of Nguyen TV).
Touched by the gesture of the traffic police, Mr. Nguyen Van T., representative of three families, wrote a letter of thanks to the leaders of Hanoi City Police and the officers and soldiers of Traffic Police Team No. 3.
