The 20-hectare Saigon Botanical Garden was built by the French in 1864 to raise animals and plants from all over Indochina. Initially, the land here was swampy, so the expeditionary force had to clear the land, create paths, and build the first animal cages. Later, the project was named Thao Cam Vien, becoming one of the eight oldest zoos in the world . On March 26, the Saigon Botanical Garden celebrated its 160th anniversary.
