As a pioneer in the field of providing lightweight and sustainable building materials in the country, Saint-Gobain Vietnam is particularly interested in responding to the call for action for the national goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

At the BCI Equinox 2023 event, General Director of Saint-Gobain Vietnam - Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai shared on the topic "Lightweight and sustainable solutions from Saint-Gobain towards the green construction industry".

He affirmed: “ Being carbon neutral by 2050 is an important goal of our commitment to sustainable development in Vietnam and globally. Accompanying the BCI Equinox 2023 event is one of many activities that help Saint-Gobain continue to demonstrate this. Through the event, Saint-Gobain also wants to affirm that it is always ready to accompany contractors, investors, architects... in the country towards the goal of greening the construction industry .”

Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai - General Director of Saint-Gobain Vietnam shared about green solutions to help reduce environmental impact.

To affirm the goal of accompanying the construction industry to develop green buildings, CEO of Saint-Gobain Vietnam presented 4 practical solutions in the product system in turn:

  • Saint-Gobain is consistent in providing products and solutions that help reduce carbon emissions such as: gypsum-based interior plasters that reduce CO2 emissions by 75% compared to cement-based plasters; glass produced based on hydrogen-based materials, which reduces 70% of direct CO2 emissions into the environment; glass wool with an average recycled content of up to 59%.
  • Lightweight solutions for the interior wall area of the building help reduce global warming by 79% (on average, every 10,000 m2 of plasterboard wall will reduce 250 tons of CO2 equivalent to 30 trips around the world by car, compared to traditional walls), reduce 67% of energy used (on average, every 10,000 m2 of plasterboard wall will reduce the equivalent of the amount of electricity used for 166,792 Vietnamese people in the city in 24 hours, compared to traditional walls) and reduce 81% of clean water use (on average, every 10,000 m2 of plasterboard wall will reduce 1,100 m3 of clean water, compared to traditional walls).
  • Saint-Gobain provides products that are assessed for environmental impact (LCA) and have EPDs (Saint-Gobain has nearly 1,500 products and many brands have EPDs such as Weber, Vinh Tuong, Gyproc, Vetrotech, Pam...).
  • The construction industry consumes 33% of energy, so energy efficiency for buildings is a big problem. To solve this problem, Saint-Gobain helps increase energy efficiency of buildings through a system of solutions such as: Low-E Glass solution helps reduce 60% of energy consumption for HVAC (air conditioning system) during operation; sustainable insulation solution helps reduce up to 40% of indirect emissions related to heating and cooling thanks to internal solutions; ETICS external solution system (insulation system outside the building helps improve energy efficiency for the building).

In addition to the industry's common goals, Saint-Gobain Group in Vietnam and globally also has internal goals for the company to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Saint-Gobain Vietnam commits to reducing industrial wastewater by 50%, CO2 emissions directly at construction sites and indirect CO2 emissions in production by 33%, non-recycled waste in production by 80%, and 100% of product groups and systems are assessed to reduce environmental impacts throughout the product life cycle (LCA). This is the premise for the group to move towards the 2050 goal of achieving carbon neutrality as committed.

Also within the framework of the event, Saint-Gobain displayed many typical products such as: EI150 fireproof wall with fire resistance time of 150 minutes, contributing to protecting people and property when an incident occurs; fireproof air ducts are produced with 80% recycled glass wool, with good heat resistance; moisture-resistant walls are produced according to European 4.0 technology with water absorption capacity of less than 5%.
