Thanh Son Airport: Will be planned in the direction of dual use

The planning of Thanh Son Airport for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has been organized by the Ministry of Construction in the form of receiving sponsored products from the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province (formerly the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province); up to now, the planning scheme has been basically completed. On October 21, the Provincial People's Committee issued Document No. 420 requesting to stop sponsoring the product, which is the planning dossier of Thanh Son Airport, to the Ministry of Construction . At the same time, the Air Defense - Air Force Service issued Document No. 6442, dated October 31, 2025, requesting to allow ADCC Company to be sponsored and continue to complete the planning dossier of Thanh Son Airport for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Regarding this content, the Ministry of Construction said that it will direct relevant agencies and units to receive the planning dossier that the Provincial People's Committee has organized to study up to this point; Make the most of research results to complete the planning scheme, ensure optimization, quality, efficiency and early appraisal and approval according to regulations. The Ministry of Construction hopes to continue to receive the coordination of the Provincial People's Committee and related units in the process of completing the planning dossier. The Ministry of Construction agrees in principle to accept sponsored products according to the proposal of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, ADCC Company to complete the Thanh Son Airport Planning dossier for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. The sponsorship of planning products is not bound to the form of investment and development of Thanh Son airport and the Ministry of Construction does not have to repay the cost of this planning.

Thanh Son Airport can accommodate Airbus A321 aircraft.

The Ministry of Construction assigned the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to guide and closely coordinate with sponsors and relevant agencies and units in the process of organizing planning, guiding the construction and completion of sponsored products; be responsible for receiving sponsored products which are planning documents; be responsible for implementing the tasks of the planning agency after receiving the products, and submit them to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal and approval according to regulations.

Previously, the Government Office announced the conclusion of the Government Standing Committee at the meeting on the contents related to the possibility of investing and exploiting Thanh Son airport. The Government Standing Committee assigned the Ministry of National Defense to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Construction and the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province to urgently review and report to the Prime Minister to promptly handle problems related to investment procedures at Thanh Son airport. In the immediate future, the Ministry of National Defense will study and propose the dual use of Thanh Son airport according to the provisions of Article 7 of the Law on Management and Protection of National Defense Works and Military Zones and related legal provisions. Also according to the conclusion announcement, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly and the Government have directed to continue to deploy the construction of Ninh Thuan nuclear power plants in Khanh Hoa province. In order to create conditions to support the province in developing infrastructure, promoting investment, business and tourism activities, it is necessary to consider and adjust the purpose of using Thanh Son airport in the direction of dual use.

Thanh Son airport is known to be a level 1 military airport, with two runways 31m and 23m wide, more than 3,000m long, and can accommodate F70, ATR72, Airbus A321 or equivalent aircraft. This airport meets the 4C airport standards according to the classification of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
