Ms. Thi Be is on a new path with her contributions.
“The fence I built before was carefully constructed, plastered, and beautifully painted. To build it, I borrowed 100 million dong from the bank. Having to tear it down is truly regrettable. But then I thought, I have to make sacrifices for the common good. With a new, spacious, clean road, people will have easier access, especially the students going to school. People can transport goods for trading more easily, and agricultural products will sell at higher prices. I'm making a small sacrifice, but the people in the neighborhood will benefit, and that's precious,” shared Ms. Thi Be.
Eight years after her husband passed away, Mrs. Thi Be single-handedly raised five children, relying on the income from 5 acres of cashew trees and 3 acres of rubber trees, carefully saving and raising her children. Despite the many worries and her average income, Mrs. Thi Be voluntarily donated approximately 200 square meters of land along with her rubber trees, creating conditions for the local people to have a more spacious and clean road.
When the government began constructing an inter-communal asphalt road from the Minh Duc commune intersection to Dong No commune, the authorities had to persuade many households five or seven times before they agreed. But for Mrs. Thi Be, one time was enough. While many people were still hesitant and considering their options, she was the one who generously shared her vision. She understood that this road wasn't just being built on her land; it was a road leading to the future, strengthening community bonds. Having witnessed the small, slippery road, the cause of many traffic accidents, she was compelled to build it without a second thought.
Ms. Thi Be's humane actions have created a positive impact in the community. Ms. Le Thi Huong, who voluntarily donated over 200 square meters of land and 15 meters of sturdy fence for the government to build a road, shared: “Ms. Thi Be is a very kind, gentle, compassionate person who knows how to sacrifice for the community. Her donation of land and demolition of the fence is not only a practical contribution to the community but also a shining example for people to follow. A knowledgeable woman, willing to suffer disadvantages to contribute to the common good, is truly admirable.”
“Initially, many households disagreed with donating land for the road. But thanks to Ms. Thi Be's actions, many have changed their minds. Some families have donated 500 square meters of land, like Ms. Thi Phat's family, while others are willing to cut down 30-60 rubber trees that are currently being harvested to donate land for the road. This is proof of the ripple effect of a good deed.” Vice Chairman of Minh Duc Commune People's Committee HOANG VAN TOAN |
Not only did she donate land, but Mrs. Thi Be also opened her house to serve as a community center for the hamlet before a community center was built. Her small house was where villagers often gathered to discuss hamlet affairs; it was also where Mrs. Thi Be personally brewed tea and poured water for guests at each meeting. Her sincerity in even the smallest things made her close and beloved within the community.
On many occasions, her house was also chosen as the venue for elections for National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels. Ms. Thi Be recounted: "My house is in a central location. It's convenient for people to get around. Whenever there's a need, Mr. Dieu Lanh, the village head, comes to ask for my help, and I always agree."
Mrs. Thi Be's house also served as a meeting place before the village cultural center was built.
Mr. Dieu Re, Mrs. Thi Be's son-in-law, shared proudly: "My mother's actions are an example for us to follow. When one person does good, everyone else sees the value. Thanks to that, the hamlet is developing more and more."
Ms. Thi Be is a shining example in everyday life; her actions have ignited faith in the power of community, painting a beautiful picture of a modernized, united rural area, and the spirit of "one for all" in this challenging land.
