Mrs. Thi Be on the new path with her contribution
“The previous fence was carefully built by me, plastered and painted very beautifully. To build the fence, I borrowed 100 million VND from the bank. It was really a pity to have to destroy it. But then I thought, I have to know how to sacrifice for the common good. When there is a new, spacious and clean road, people can travel more conveniently, especially students going to school. People can transport goods and trade easily, and agricultural products can be sold at a higher price. I sacrifice a little, but the people in the neighborhood benefit, so that is precious,” Ms. Thi Be shared.
Her husband passed away 8 years ago, Ms. Thi Be raised 5 children alone, living on the income from 5 sao of cashew and 3 sao of rubber, saving and saving to raise her children. Although life is still full of worries with an average income, Ms. Thi Be voluntarily donated about 200m² of land and rubber trees being exploited, creating conditions for people to have more spacious and clean roads.
When the State implemented the construction of an inter-commune asphalt road from the intersection of Minh Duc commune to Dong No commune, the government had to persuade many households 5 or 7 times to get it done, but for Ms. Thi Be, just once was enough. When many people were still hesitant and considering, she was the one who generously shared. Because she understood that the road was not only built on her land but also a road leading to the future, connecting the village and neighbors. Having witnessed the small, slippery road, the cause of many traffic accidents, that urged her to give without hesitation or thought.
Ms. Thi Be's humane actions have created a positive effect in the community. Ms. Le Thi Huong, who voluntarily donated more than 200 square meters of land and 15 meters of solid fence for the State to build a road, shared: "Ms. Thi Be is a very kind, gentle, compassionate person who knows how to sacrifice for the community. Her donation of land and demolition of fences is not only a practical contribution to the community but also a shining example for people to follow. A knowledgeable woman, willing to suffer losses to contribute to the common good, is truly admirable."
“At first, many households did not agree to donate land for road construction. But after Ms. Thi Be’s action, many people changed. Some families donated 500 square meters of land like Ms. Thi Phat’s family, or some households were willing to cut down 30-60 rubber trees that were being exploited to donate land for road construction. That is proof of the spreading power of a beautifying act.” Vice Chairman of Minh Duc Commune People's Committee HOANG VAN TOAN |
Not only did she donate land, Mrs. Thi Be also opened her house as a meeting place for the hamlet when there was no cultural house. Her small house was where people often gathered to discuss the hamlet's work; it was where every time there was a meeting, Mrs. Thi Be personally made tea and poured water to invite guests. Sincerely doing the smallest things, she became close and dear to the community.
Many times, her house was chosen as the venue for elections of National Assembly and People's Council deputies at all levels. Ms. Thi Be said: "My house is in a central location. It is convenient for people to travel. Whenever there is work, Mr. Dieu Lanh, the Hamlet Chief, comes to ask for help, I agree."
Mrs. Thi Be's house was also a meeting place before there was a hamlet cultural house.
Mr. Dieu Re, Mrs. Thi Be’s son-in-law, proudly shared: “What our mother did was an example for us to follow. If one person does well, hundreds of people will see the value. Thanks to that, the hamlet is growing more and more.”
Mrs. Thi Be is a shining example in everyday life. Her work has ignited faith in the strength of the community, painting a beautiful picture of a renewed, united countryside with the spirit of "one for all" in a difficult land.
