Container freight ships have become the main mode of transport driving trade between Vietnam and China, with impressive figures in the first six months of 2024 showing 4,928 containers transported, a 1,565% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Chinese media reports, statistics from the Nanning Railway Bureau in Guangxi, China, show that in the first six months of 2024, China-Vietnam freight trains departing from Guangxi transported 4,928 containers of goods, a 1,565% increase compared to the same period last year, accounting for 74% of China's container exports to Vietnam.

In particular, the volume of raw paper, engines, and dried food transported increased by 80%, 270%, and 319% respectively compared to the same period last year.

To improve the efficiency of China-Vietnam intermodal freight trains, the Nanning Railway Bureau consistently shares relevant information with Vietnamese railway units to promptly notify relevant agencies and cargo owners, enabling them to quickly complete import procedures. This shortens processing time and improves customs clearance efficiency, ensuring a 14-hour train journey from Nanning Station, China to Yen Vien Station, Vietnam, meeting the needs for same-day delivery, customs clearance, and cargo handling.

From the beginning of 2024, the Nanning Railway Bureau expanded its freight collection and transportation routes, playing a key role in the transportation network. freight transport of Nanning International Railway Port, and simultaneously developing suitable logistics plans for each enterprise to attract goods to be consolidated at the port for export to Vietnam, as well as gradually shifting from simple transportation services to comprehensive cross-border transportation services or increasing the free container delivery time to 48 hours to reduce transportation costs for businesses.

Currently, more than 20 cities in and outside the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have become cargo consolidation points for intermodal freight trains exporting goods to ASEAN countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.

Nanning International Railway Port has initially become a hub for the collection, distribution, and transportation of Chinese goods exported to Vietnam by rail. Intermodal container trains have become the primary mode of transport in promoting trade between the two countries.
