Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented to actress Sigourney Weaver

On June 28, the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Venice Film Festival announced that it will award the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to actress Sigourney Weaver.

The 74-year-old actress Weaver is best known for her roles in two of cinema's most iconic sci-fi franchises, the Alien series, which ran for four films from 1979-1997 , and Avatar , released in 2009 and 2022.

Although she never won an Oscar, Weaver was nominated for three Academy Awards, including two for Best Actress, the first for Alien in 1987 and the second for Gorillas in the Mist in 1989, a biopic about Dian Fossey, a scientist who studied mountain gorillas in Africa.

That same year, she was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the romantic comedy Working Girl .

Speaking about the honor, Ms. Weaver said: "This is a privilege that I want to share with all the filmmakers and collaborators I have worked with over the years."

The 81st Venice Film Festival - the world's oldest film festival, will be held from August 28 to September 7 this year.
