(NLDO) - The Ho Chi Minh City metro system not only brings significant improvements to public transportation but also opens up great opportunities for the multi-industry labor market.
According to the master plan to 2040, with a vision to 2060, Ho Chi Minh City plans to develop a metro network of 10 lines, with a total length of 510 km.
In the overall metro project, the city aims to complete 7 lines with a total length of 355 km by 2035, meeting 40-50% of people's travel needs.

Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that in 2025, the university will open more interdisciplinary training programs to provide high-quality human resources for major projects such as the metro system, Long Thanh International Airport and high-speed railway. The new majors focus on renewable energy, nuclear power and logistics, to meet the country's development needs.
Many universities in Ho Chi Minh City have been training human resources in metro-related fields.
Since 2008, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport has been training in railway - metro construction and urban traffic construction, with 30 graduates each year. After graduation, engineers can participate in the design, construction, supervision and management of metro construction projects as well as perform maintenance and repair of technical infrastructure when the system is put into operation.
In addition, the major in transport electrical systems under the electrical engineering department was opened in 2018, with nearly 40 students per class. Graduates can install metro electrical systems and operate them when they are put into operation. The school also has majors in transport economics , construction economics, project management and information technology, providing human resources for construction management and operation of urban railway systems.
The Ho Chi Minh City branch of the University of Transport also contributes to training in tunnel and metro majors in the field of traffic engineering. In addition, graduates of the smart transport and electrical equipment majors at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics are also equipped with knowledge to participate in operating the metro system.

In the Northern region, the University of Transport Technology trains in railway and metro construction engineering technology, providing human resources for urban railway projects in Vietnam.
Metro systems require not only technical personnel but also the participation of many other fields in the operation process. Train-related jobs such as train driving, dispatching, automatic ticket checking and customer service require personnel from the logistics, service and human resource management fields.
Information technology plays an important role in ticketing, operations and safety management. In addition, finance, accounting and auditing personnel are also needed to ensure the system operates effectively.
Metro systems not only require human resources from technical fields but also require the participation of many different fields in the operation process.
