On October 30, the Vietnamese Students Association in Australia attended an online student scientific conference in the fields of cloud computing, quantum computing and big data.

The workshop was organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association in collaboration with the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, directly at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City), opening a series of 11 student scientific workshops associated with strategic technology groups in accordance with the orientation of Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, national digital transformation and the decision of the Prime Minister, including artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor chips, cyber security, robotics-automation, advanced materials-energy, biomedicine, blockchain, 5G/6G, rare earth-ocean-underground technology and aerospace.

The workshop is also the starting point for the formation and launch of the VietGENiUS Portal - a platform for connecting, learning and sharing of talented Vietnamese technology students in strategic fields.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet - Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union , President of the Vietnam Student Association, assessed that this was a very special event, a practical activity of members and students nationwide to welcome the 14th National Congress of the Party, and at the same time towards the 76th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Students and the Vietnam Student Association (January 9, 1950 - January 9, 2026).

Attending the conference at the Sydney end were Mr. Trinh Dang Ha - Head of the Vietnam Science and Technology Representative Office in Sydney; Dr. Wibowo Hardjawana, senior lecturer in telecommunications engineering, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Sydney (Australia); Associate Professor - Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep - Director of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technology Center; and many Vietnamese students studying in this Oceanian country.

As one of 10 speakers who delivered a live and online presentation titled “Developing a network of cloud computing, big data and quantum students - connecting Vietnamese knowledge with the world,” Associate Professor-PhD Nguyen Ngoc Diep said that in an era where data has become the “new oil” of humanity, cloud computing and quantum computing are opening up unprecedented new horizons. Vietnamese students cannot just be followers but must be participants, creators and leaders. With only passion, self-study ability and a community to accompany them, Vietnamese students can absolutely contribute research results of international value.

In an interview with VNA reporters in Sydney, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep highly appreciated the significance and purpose of the conference, especially the initiative to establish a network of talented Vietnamese technology students.

According to him, the generation of students and young people are not only the subjects but also the owners of the industrial revolution and the scientific and technological revolution in Vietnam in particular and in the world in general. 20 years ago, Vietnam tried to catch up with the world, but now, it is the students who will not only help Vietnam receive new technologies but also create new technologies to contribute to the world.

Giving much praise to Vietnamese students and the young generation, Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Diep commented that before the year 2000, despite many difficulties, Vietnam still produced generations of excellent students, who are now working at large corporations in the world and have made many contributions to the development of science and technology in the world.

Currently, Vietnam has entered a different phase, with better conditions, young people are receptive to new technologies, and have better training programs. Therefore, Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Diep believes that this will be a generation that will make a difference not only for Vietnam but also for the world.

In his speech “The power of connecting Vietnamese knowledge - The aspirations of young people in the Student Science Conference on cloud computing, big data and quantum,” Tran Binh Minh - currently studying Computer Science at the University of Sydney, Vice President of the Vietnamese Student Association in New South Wales, stated that today, cloud computing, quantum computing and big data are shaping a new era of science and technology, especially in the field of bioinformatics, where large datasets on genes and pathologies are increasingly exploited effectively. This is also the field he is pursuing for research.

Minh said that he and his colleagues are developing an AI model to detect the relationship between long non-coding RNA molecules and a number of complex diseases. Initial results show that the model is highly accurate and has the potential to be applied to screening and early diagnosis. These are areas of strategic significance not only to the world, but also to the development of Vietnam.

Talking to VNA reporters in Sydney after the conference, Tran Binh Minh said that in the era of technology 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution, cutting-edge technology industries are increasingly developing, today's conference on cloud computing, quantum computing and big data is a very important event, helping to connect international students, researchers as well as leading professors and associate professors around the world. According to him, for every student, the most important thing is to learn, research and cultivate knowledge so that they can find new technological solutions, new research, and contribute to the development of the country.

Agreeing with Binh Minh's opinion, Vuong Nhat Minh - a third-year student majoring in electrical engineering and cloud computing at the University of Sydney, said that in recent years, major countries such as the US, Singapore, and China are gradually shifting their focus to developing information technology and cloud computing. Establishing a network of talented students like VietGENiUS is an urgent task, helping students connect, share knowledge and experience, and at the same time create "bridges" connecting the technology industry between countries.

As an international student studying cloud computing engineering, Nhat Minh said that after completing his study program, he will continue to strive to research and improve his professional knowledge so that he can return to contribute to his homeland and country./.
