Realme smartphone has the ability to change color according to the season

According to information from realme, the back of this product line will change color based on temperature. Specifically, the back cover will change from pearl white to "brilliant blue" when the temperature drops below 16 degrees Celsius. Conversely, when the temperature rises above 16 degrees Celsius, the color will return to its original state.

realme 14 Pro is the first product with a color-changing back cover

The effect has been compared to the color-changing ability of sea creatures like jellyfish. Testing with this feature showed a mild transition effect, with only some parts of the back cover changing color rather than the whole thing, which is not as dramatic as expected.

realme says the feature is made possible by the use of thermochromic pigments, but warns that the effect may "gradually" diminish over time, especially under direct sunlight. The company estimates that the effect will last for around 12 months, so users should consider applying a protective coating to extend its life.

Special color on realme 14 Pro Plus

In addition, realme has collaborated with Danish design firm Valeur Designers to create a pearl white color option with a "shell-like" texture and a "pearl-like" shine. This is reminiscent of the Huawei P60 Pro launched in 2023, which had a similar pearl variant. Notably, no two realme 14 Pro Plus pearl white models are exactly the same due to the unique pattern on the back.

The realme 14 Pro series also marks the first time that the products are equipped with IP68 and IP69 ratings, for dust and water resistance. However, it is unclear whether this feature applies to both the Pro and Pro Plus models or is exclusive to the latter. The Pro Plus model will have a 4-sided curved screen, a triple rear camera system, and a triple camera flash for night portrait photography.

realme also confirmed that the phone will be equipped with a periscope camera and Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip. At the moment, information about the selling price, availability, and full list of specifications are still a mystery.
