At the press conference, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said: This year, Hanoi has over 102,000 candidates taking the exam, the largest number in the country. This year is also the first year that candidates studying the 2018 general education program take the 10th grade entrance exam, so the pressure is very high.
The city's exam steering committee identifies and anticipates arising issues to ensure a safe and serious exam, especially regarding exam questions and creating favorable conditions for candidates.
From the fact that many schools have similar names that can easily confuse candidates, Mr. Cuong said that in the recent 10th grade entrance exam, Hanoi introduced a digital map model to create favorable conditions for candidates.
This digital map marks the exam locations and shows directions to the exam locations. When clicking on the exam locations, you can find information related to the exam locations, including the exam location address, exam location phone number, head and deputy head of the exam location, number of exam rooms, etc. The digital map is not only applied to this exam but also to the upcoming high school graduation exam to help parents and candidates easily find the exam locations, avoiding confusion.
Discussing the organization of the exam in the past two days, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training - said that in the two days of the exam, only 1 candidate violated the exam regulations (in the foreign language subject). The exam was safe, with no errors or problems with the exam.
Discussing further about the preparation and orientation of the exam questions, Mr. Pham Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, informed: Preparations for the 10th grade entrance exam were implemented very early, from directing schools to organize review and assessment of students according to the new orientation, in line with the current program, to early announcement of sample exam questions.

Invited to comment on the literature exam at the press conference, teacher Lam Kieu Ninh - a teacher at Dong Da Secondary School - said: Literature is the subject that students and teachers are most nervous about because this year's exam does not use materials from textbooks. However, after the exam, many teachers felt relieved because the exam was not too difficult for students, but also met the requirements for classifying students.
"We are teachers, so we have participated in many training sessions of the department and have been closely instructed to have an early review plan for 9th grade students. With the newly released exam, most students were able to do it," Ms. Ninh added.
Ms. Nguyen Viet Nga - teacher at Viet Duc High School - also assessed that the test was appropriate and ensured differentiation.
Regarding math, teacher Trinh Hoai Duong, a teacher at Giang Vo 2 Secondary School - Ba Dinh, said that among the changes in the math questions, attention has been paid to encouraging students to be creative. For example, instead of requiring students to solve a problem according to a solution, this year's questions have questions that allow candidates to solve it in different ways.
