Ten Hag only "pocketed" 8.5 million pounds when he was fired by MU. |
The Dutchman will leave Old Trafford in October 2024, with the Red Devils down to 14th in the Premier League. The compensation is much lower than initial reports, which suggested Ten Hag could earn up to £11m.
Ten Hag had his contract extended for another year in the summer of 2024, after helping MU win the FA Cup. At the time of his dismissal, Ten Hag had 20 months left on his £9 million/year contract.
In the recently published financial report, MU stated: "On 28/10/2024, the club announced that Erik ten Hag had left his position as head coach of the men's first team. The related costs, approximately 8.5 million pounds, will be recorded in the financial report ending on 30/6/2025".
MU also revealed that they paid a total of £14.5 million to Ten Hag, his coaching staff and former sporting director Dan Ashworth when they all left the "Theatre of Dreams". Notably, according to the Daily Mail , the compensation for Ten Hag is also approximately the amount that MU had to pay when cutting 250 staff last summer.
The report confirmed: "In July 2024, Manchester United will begin a redundancy process with the aim of reducing its workforce by approximately 250. The associated costs, in the range of £8m to £10m, will be recognised."
With the above financial losses, Ruben Amorim does not have much transfer budget left. The Portuguese coach will have to work with the current force, while finding ways to take advantage of the young players in the academy to improve performance.
If he wants more money, coach Amorim will have to sell some players. Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are all likely to leave MU in the summer of 2025.
