Dong Nai Department of Health requests to inspect, handle and trace the origin of fake drug Nexium® 40mg

(DN)- On May 26, Deputy Director of the Department of Health Nguyen Van Binh said that the department has sent a document to local health departments; affiliated units; private medical examination and treatment facilities; and drug trading and using establishments in the province requesting inspection, handling, and tracing of the origin of fake Nexium® 40mg.

According to the direction of the Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ), the drug sample Nexium® 40mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole) (batch number: 23H420, expiry date: 9-2027, the drug sample does not have information about the circulation registration number and/or import license number, manufacturing facility, importing facility on the label) does not meet the quality requirements for the quantitative index of Esomeprazole according to the reference document, the basic standard of Nexium tablets, registration number: VN-19782-16 of the manufacturer Astra Zeneca, with the result of 6.91mg/tablet (17.27% of the content stated on the label).

To ensure the safety of users, the Department of Health strictly prohibits drug businesses and users in the province from trading, distributing, and using the above-mentioned fake Nexium® 40mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole). Only buy and sell drugs at legal drug businesses; do not buy/sell drugs of unknown origin. Promptly report any suspicious signs of production and trading of fake drugs or drugs of unknown origin to health agencies and relevant authorities. The Department of Health assigned the Provincial Testing Center to increase sampling and quality testing of drugs in circulation in the area for drugs at risk of being counterfeited or of poor quality; promptly report detected cases to the Department of Health and relevant authorities.

Nexium 40mg is a medicine used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid.
