Exciting Southeast Asian rowing and canoeing race on Gia River

On the morning of June 27, at the Hai Phong City Rowing Training Center, the opening ceremony of the U.19, U.23 Youth Rowing and Canoeing Championship and the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship took place.

Representatives of the Organizing Committee of the race presented flowers and encouraged 7 teams from 7 countries in the Southeast Asian region participating in the competition.

The tournament was jointly organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Training (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong, and the Vietnam Rowing Federation, bringing together more than 500 members from 7 countries.

Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Admiral Chalarong Charoenruk, President of the Asian Canoeing Federation; Mr. Rangsan Wongsan, President of the Southeast Asian Rowing Federation; General Secretary of the Southeast Asian Rowing Federation Nguyen Hai Duong; Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, presented the race symbol to representatives of 7 teams from 7 countries in the Southeast Asian region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Rangsan Wongsan, President of the Southeast Asian Rowing Federation, said that this is the most prestigious tournament in the region, gathering the best athletes of the rowing teams preparing to participate in the 33rd SEA Games held in Thailand in 2025. Mr. Wongsan highly appreciated the attention and careful preparation of Hai Phong City for the tournament.

Right after the opening ceremony, the rowing competition started. This event had 263 members from 7 delegations: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and host Vietnam competing for 43 sets of medals in various events.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the teams entered the knockout competition in rowing on the Gia River.

On June 27, 15 knockout rounds in the U.19 men's double sculls, heavyweight women's singles, U.23 men's doubles, lightweight men's singles, heavyweight men's doubles, heavyweight men's doubles, heavyweight men's doubles, heavyweight men's doubles, heavyweight men's doubles, lightweight men's quad sculls, and champion women's quad sculls took place. The athletes competed fiercely in the 2,000-meter race.
