On September 7, American cyclist Neilson Powless recreated Chris Froome's legendary moment when he suddenly picked up his bike and jogged on the Maryland Cycling Classic track.
Although the unexpected incident caused him to miss out on the chance to win, this action became the focus of attention of the world cycling community.
The incident happened when Powless was in the leading group, but a punctured tire at a crucial moment caused him to lose momentum.
According to the rules of the International Cycling Union (UCI), riders and support vehicles are not allowed to go in opposite directions on the track. In that dilemma, Powless refused to take the neutral vehicle and made a bold decision.
He hoisted his bike with the broken rear wheel onto his shoulder and started jogging towards the front of the waiting team car. The image of him running on the track made many people laugh and immediately associated it with the famous incident of Chris Froome at the 2016 Tour de France.

After being given a replacement car by his teammate, Powless continued the race but unfortunately only finished in 18th place, more than 5 minutes behind winner Sandy Dujardin.
On his personal Instagram, Powless shared about the incident: "It was great to be back in the season at the Maryland Cycling Classic. Unfortunately, a puncture on the last lap prevented me from winning. Thank you Baltimore and everyone who helped make this race happen."
Powless's actions evoked memories of Froome's historic moment, when he ran up the legendary Mont Ventoux after crashing and breaking his bike at the 2016 Tour de France. Froome's actions not only kept him in the race but also helped him win the third Tour de France title of his illustrious career.
