Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan has just decided to award certificates of merit to the neonatal department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital and four nurses at this department for their bravery in retrieving newborn babies and saving people being chased by dangerous subjects.

Accordingly, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan awarded certificates of merit to the collective of the neonatal department, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital and four individuals: nurse Nguyen Thuy Trang, nurse Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai, nurse Tran Thi Hong and nurse Nguyen Thi Hong, neonatal department, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

The decision to award certificates of merit clearly stated that the collective and individuals had taken brave actions to protect the safety of patients and their families in emergency situations.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , at around 10am on October 23, an attack occurred on the 3rd floor of the 7-storey building of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, injuring many people. The suspect is BVV (29 years old, from Bac Ninh , living in Que Phong commune, Nghe An), whose wife had just given birth and was being treated in the obstetrics department.

While visiting his wife and children, this man suddenly used a fruit knife to attack people around him. The incident injured 7 people, including medical staff, who were then rushed to the emergency room. The health of the 7 victims is now stable.

After the incident, Mr. Ha Anh Duc - Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health - also said that the health sector has repeatedly proposed setting up an emergency alarm system (hotline) in hospitals.

"In case of an unusual situation, just press the button and security forces or police will be there within minutes," he said.

The Ministry of Health has directed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security and People's Committees of provinces and cities to review all security work at medical examination and treatment facilities.

At the same time, it is recommended that localities arrange professional security forces at provincial and central hospitals, strengthen surveillance camera systems, security control gates, along with psychological support solutions and legal protection for medical staff who are abused while on duty.
