On the morning of December 11th, the Nghe An Provincial People's Council, 18th term (2021-2026), opened its 35th session (the regular year-end session of 2025).
At this session, the People's Council of Nghe An province elected Mr. Thai Van Thanh, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, to the position of Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province.
Mr. Thai Van Thanh, 56 years old, is from Vinh Tan ward (formerly), now Thanh Vinh ward, Nghe An province.
Mr. Thanh has the professional qualifications of a Professor and Doctor of Education.
Before being elected as Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, Mr. Thanh had worked for many years at Vinh University, and later served as Vice Rector of Vinh University.
During his years working at Vinh University, he focused on teaching, educational management, and scientific research, publishing numerous scientific and educational works. He was promoted to associate professor and then professor in the field of education, and was awarded the title of Outstanding Teacher.
In March 2019, Mr. Thanh was appointed Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, becoming the first professor to hold this position in Nghe An province.
Mr. Thanh is currently a member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, and a Member of the 15th National Assembly representing Nghe An province.
Thus, after the restructuring of the leadership apparatus of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee is Vo Trong Hai; the Vice-Chairmen of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee include: Mr. Bui Thanh An, Mr. Nguyen Van De, Mr. Hoang Phu Hien, Mr. Phung Thanh Vinh and Mr. Thai Van Thanh.
At this session, delegates will focus their questioning and answering on two issues.
The first issue is "The effectiveness of state management in responding to and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, and restoring sustainable livelihoods for people in the province. Current situation, causes, and solutions for the future."
The second issue is "Digital transformation in the operations of state agencies in the province: Current situation, causes, and solutions for the future."
For the third consecutive year, Nghe An province has attracted over $1 billion in FDI.
Nghe An province is expected to achieve and surpass 22 out of 25 key targets of the 2025 plan. The province's GRDP growth rate is estimated at 8.44%, ranking 3rd in the North Central sub-region and 13th nationwide.
State budget revenue is estimated at 26,560 billion VND, reaching nearly 150% of the projected target, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2024 (the first year exceeding the 26,000 billion VND mark, ranking 17th nationwide and 2nd in the North Central region).
Attracting investment continues to be a bright spot, with the total newly registered and increased investment capital of projects reaching over 40,280 billion VND (as of November 30, 2025); of which foreign direct investment (FDI) attracted over 1 billion USD, for the fourth consecutive year ranking among the top 10 localities attracting the most FDI nationwide, and for the third consecutive year attracting over 1 billion USD.
