You might think that Japanese automakers would prioritize their home market launches, but Subaru isn’t doing that. Instead, it’s introducing the sixth-generation 2025 Subaru Forester in Japan, 18 months later than in the US. |

However, the Japanese market gets some notable upgrades to make up for the delay. The first difference between the 2025 Subaru Forester SUV in the Japanese and US markets is the engine. |

Accordingly, the Subaru Forester 2025 in the Japanese market is equipped with a 1.8L, turbocharged, 4-cylinder gasoline engine, with a maximum capacity of 177 horsepower at 5,200-5,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 300 Nm at 1,600-3,600 rpm. The engine comes with a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission and Subaru's signature symmetrical 4-wheel drive system. |

Meanwhile, the only gasoline version of this model on the market uses a 2.5L, naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder Boxer gasoline engine. The S:HEV hybrid version launched in the US market earlier this year is also available in Japan. |

The 2025 Subaru Forester S:HEV uses a 2.5L, naturally aspirated, direct-injection, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an Atkinson cycle, producing a maximum capacity of 160 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and maximum torque of 209 Nm at 4,000-4,400 rpm. |

The engine is combined with an electric motor supplied by Toyota, producing a maximum output of 119.6 horsepower and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. This hybrid powertrain produces a total output of 197 horsepower. |

According to the European WLTP standard, the 2025 Subaru Forester consumes an average of 13.6 km/l (about 7.3 liters/100 km) of fuel for the petrol version and 18.8 km/l (5.3 liters/100 km) for the hybrid version. Unlike Toyota's hybrid system, this C-size SUV still uses a mechanical 4-wheel drive system instead of an electric motor located on the rear wheels. |

A special new feature of the 2025 Subaru Forester is the larger pedestrian airbag. This is the world's first airbag designed to protect cyclists. This U-shaped airbag wraps around the A-pillar to protect the cyclist's head. |

In addition, the new Subaru Forester has been improved with a wider front bumper and front subframe to increase impact absorption efficiency in collisions. In the hybrid version, the power control unit (PCU) has been moved to the front to increase fuel tank capacity and improve safety in collisions. |

The EyeSight driver assistance system has been upgraded with a wide-angle central camera and front side radar sensors, expanding the automatic emergency braking capability. This is also the first time the Subaru Forester is equipped with the EyeSight X system, allowing for hands-free semi-autonomous driving in traffic jams on the highway. |

In terms of design, the Japanese car is almost identical to the US version with a square appearance, a large hexagonal grille, swept-back headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights in the "eyebrow" style, and inverted L-shaped taillights connected by a black strip. In addition, there are hexagonal details on the wheel arches, bumpers, and window frames. The car has the option of wheels up to 19 inches and 11 paint colors, including the new River Rock Pearl color. |

The hexagonal pattern continues inside the car, in areas such as the air-conditioning vents, gearshift lever and door panels. The center touch screen is placed vertically with a size of 11.6 inches, integrating air-conditioning controls. |

Add to that a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a Harman Kardon sound system with a 200mm subwoofer in the trunk. Not only is it more comfortable, the interior of this C-segment SUV also has some interesting details such as the image of a hummingbird on the third side window, an optional panoramic sunroof and the image of Mount Akagi on the rear window. |

The seats have been redesigned to provide better pelvic support, while seat rails are mounted directly to the body to reduce vibration. Buyers can choose from a range of seat materials including water-resistant tricot, Nappa leather, Ultrasuede or Ultrasuede and synthetic leather. |

The 2025 Subaru Forester's luggage compartment capacity is the same as the previous generation, at around 500 liters, with convenient hooks and nuts for attaching accessories and an optional hands-free opening/closing tailgate. Subaru also focused on external visibility by lowering the hood and A-pillar, reducing the size of the side mirrors, and redesigning the wipers to reduce obstruction to the driver's visibility. |

The lower edge of the third side window has also been lowered to improve rear visibility. The off-road-inspired X-Break version will feature body-coloured exterior details, larger roof rails and water-resistant synthetic leather seats. |

However, this version only uses a hybrid engine. In the Japanese market, the price of the Subaru Forester 2025 ranges from 4,048,000 - 4,488,000 Yen (about 736 - 817 million VND). The EyeSight X option costs from 110,000 - 275,000 Yen (20 - 50 million VND), depending on the version. |
