On the afternoon of November 14, speaking with VietNamNet reporters, a leader of Lang Son Provincial Police said that there was an initial assessment of the cause and the testimony of the bus driver about the particularly serious accident on National Highway 1A through Huu Lung district that occurred on October 31, killing 5 people and injuring 10 others.
Working with the police, driver Quach Dinh Trong (born in 1968, in Ha Tu ward, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province) - the driver of the 16-seat passenger bus with license plate 14B-036.57 said: Before the accident, he had picked up passengers and had traveled about 1.2km when the incident happened.
At that time, the driver had just entered National Highway 1A, because the road was empty, he was driving at high speed. About 100m from the scene of the incident, the driver saw tree branches and hazard lights coming from a semi-trailer stopped on the right side of the road in the direction of Lang Son - Hanoi , in the same direction as the passenger bus.
When about 16m away from the semi-trailer, the driver saw a tree branch warning on the road; on the opposite side of the road there were lights of a container truck approaching about 200m away.
At this time, driver Trong did not pay attention but turned back to talk about the journey to the spirit medium with the passengers on the car, leading to a collision with the back of the semi-trailer.
Then, the passenger bus rushed to the opposite side of the road and collided with the container truck.
From the driver's testimony, those involved, and the scene investigation, the police initially determined that the passenger bus crashed into the back of the semi-trailer without any signs of braking on the road.
The cause of the accident that killed 5 people and injured 10 others was mainly the fault of the bus driver. The container truck had braked in time and almost stopped before colliding with the bus. “The container truck was not at fault in this accident,” said the leader of Lang Son Provincial Police.
Previously, on November 1, Lang Son Provincial Police initiated a case and prosecuted driver Quach Dinh Trong for "Violating regulations on road traffic participation".
Currently, Lang Son Provincial Police are continuing to investigate and clarify whether the warning of the semi-trailer driver complied with relevant regulations and continue to handle the case according to regulations.
As reported, at around 2:10 a.m. on October 31, at Km 70+800 National Highway 1A, through Rung Cam slope, Hoa Lac commune, Huu Lung district, Lang Son province, a serious accident occurred.
At that time, the 16-seat passenger car with license plate 14B-036.57 driven by driver Trong, while traveling, crashed into the back of a cement semi-trailer truck that was stopped on the right side of the road in the direction of Lang Son - Hanoi.
