Binh Dinh Coming to My An beach, visitors can swim, camp overnight, dive to see coral and catch seafood themselves.
My An is a coastal commune in Phu My district, famous for its anchovy processing and is also the largest exporter of this specialty in Binh Dinh. My An beach is located between My Thang and My Tho beaches, about 45 km from Phu Cat airport, about an hour by car.
Since the beginning of 2022, when information about the coastal road project DT 639 in Binh Dinh was announced, this coastal area has begun to receive attention. However, up to now, the number of tourists is still not much.
Sea urchins are caught and processed right at My An beach.
Nguyen Viet Dong, 30 years old, a local, said that among the coastal areas in Phu My, My An beach is still pristine, an interesting place for tourists to explore in the summer.
My An has two main beaches divided by the boundary of Xuan Thanh rocky cliff, which locals often call the front beach and the back beach. The front beach is located in the north of Xuan Thanh rocky cliff, with a long, white, smooth, gently sloping sandbank, blue, clean sea water, and year-round sunshine, suitable for swimming, jet skiing, and banana boating. This is also the gathering place for fishing boats and a market place for the people.
Back Beach is located in the south, has many strange rocky rapids and boulders, wild and airy scenery, suitable for taking photos, camping, making fires, watching sunrise and sunset on the sea.
There are currently a number of local households running small businesses, supporting tourists when they come to swim and camp. The full camping service includes tents, firewood, electricity, water, and a stove for about 60,000 VND. About 3 km from the coast, Hon Nhan, Hon Dun, and Hon Duot are three small islands offshore. Tourists can rent a canoe to get here for 150,000 VND per person.
In addition to the experience of diving to see coral, this sea area has many rare seafood such as sea urchins, lobsters, and abalone. Visitors can catch seafood themselves, then prepare and enjoy it fresh right on the raft on the island or bring it back to the mainland for a barbecue.
Mr. Dong shared that this activity is completely free, however, visitors need guidance from experts such as local fishermen or local tour guides to ensure safety. If you fish on your own, you may encounter some incidents such as being pricked by sea urchin spines, or having your hand stuck in the rocks. In addition, fishermen often have caught all the seafood in favorable locations. Therefore, rare seafood is often only left in some areas that are difficult to catch.
My An beach is located quite close to residential areas so security is guaranteed, however the drawback is a lot of trash. When moving here, visitors should be careful to avoid stepping on sea urchin shells left by locals and visitors after processing. After visiting, be aware of cleaning up and protecting the environment.
Abalone is caught by tourists from My An sea.
According to Mr. Dong's experience, the ideal time to visit My An is in the summer and fall, from March to September. The rest of the time, the sea is rough, and tours are also stopped to ensure the safety of tourists.
