According to The Guardian , the museum covers an area of about 470,000 square meters , located right next to the world's most famous pyramids. The project has a total investment of an estimated 1 billion USD, started in 2005 and went through periods of stagnation due to political and economic fluctuations.

GEM was conceived in the 1990s with the ambition to become the world's leading archaeological exhibition and research center. The space includes 12 themed galleries, a conservation area, an education center and a children's area.

The museum displays more than 100,000 artifacts, including a collection of more than 5,000 artifacts of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, which is on full display for the first time. According to AP , this is the rarest collection in the global archaeology industry, attracting a large number of researchers and tourists.

The highlight of the museum is the 83-ton statue of Pharaoh Ramses II placed in the main hall, considered a strong greeting of ancient Egyptian civilization.

Egypt hopes the project will be a major boost for its tourism industry, which has been hit by regional instability and the pandemic. The country aims to welcome 30 million tourists a year in the future, with GEM playing a central role in its recovery strategy.

An Egyptian Ministry of Tourism official said that placing GEM next to the Great Pyramid will give tourists a comprehensive archaeological experience from outdoor heritage to modern museums, creating a sustainable tourism ecosystem.

Along with great expectations, the project has also encountered many controversies, as the prolonged progress and high costs have made the public skeptical about the investment efficiency. However, the Egyptian government affirmed that GEM is an investment for the future and an important link in the process of repositioning Egypt's role on the global tourism map.

The museum is not only a place to display antiquities but also applies modern audio-visual and interactive technology, helping visitors approach ancient Egyptian history through intuitive experiences.

With its enormous scale, unique location and priceless collection, the Grand Egyptian Museum is expected to become a must-see destination for all history-loving tourists.
