The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on October 21 affirmed that the tomb of King Tutankhamun - one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, in the city of Luxor is still completely stable and safe, refuting information spread in foreign media that the relic is at risk of collapse due to wall cracks and high humidity.
Mohamed Khaled, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), stressed that any rumors of a “risk of collapse” were unfounded, adding that regular inspections of the current state of King Tutankhamun’s tomb were conducted closely in coordination with the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), a world leader in heritage conservation.
According to the latest report of GCI, no physical or chemical changes have been detected in the structure of the tomb for more than a century. The cracks in the wall are only traces of old traces from 1922, the time when archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the almost intact tomb of this young pharaoh.
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities also noted that some international articles had misunderstood or misquoted sources, even confusing Tutankhamun's tomb with other sites in the Valley of the Kings.
Over the past decade, King Tutankhamun’s tomb has undergone a comprehensive conservation program, adhering to strict international standards. As a result, the 3,000-year-old site is now among the best-preserved tombs in the Valley of the Kings, continuing to attract millions of visitors and researchers each year./.
