Ho Chi Minh City introduces 55 candidates for the 16th National Assembly

The conference unanimously introduced 55 candidates for the 16th National Assembly, term 2026-2031, ensuring the re-election structure, female delegates, young delegates, delegates who are non-party members, self-nominated... according to regulations.

On December 8, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held the first consultation conference to agree on the structure, composition, and number of people of agencies, organizations, and units to be nominated as candidates for the 16th National Assembly, term 2026-2031.

The conference held a vote to approve the number of candidates nominated for the 16th National Assembly for the 2026-2031 term in Ho Chi Minh City as 55; ensuring the re-election structure, female delegates, young delegates, delegates who are not from the Party, self-nominated candidates... according to regulations.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that the election of deputies to the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels is an important political event of the country, a key task of the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people. Therefore, units need to ensure good consultation, selection and introduction of candidates, promoting the people's mastery throughout the election process.

At the same time, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City requested to promote the important role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations in the process of consultation, nomination of candidates, as well as monitoring the quality of the election; the consultation process must be conducted democratically, objectively, publicly, transparently, in accordance with legal regulations and inspection and supervision of implementation must be strengthened.

Ms. Nguyen Truong Nhat Phuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, presented the expected allocation of the number and structure of the City's 16th National Assembly delegates, including 38 people; of which, 17 delegates were introduced by the Central Government and 21 delegates residing and working locally were introduced by the City's agencies and organizations.

The planning of the structure, composition and allocation of the number of candidates to be nominated for election is carried out according to the principles of democracy, impartiality and transparency; focusing on the quality of personnel; ensuring representation between delegates operating in the Party, government, Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, armed forces, administrative agencies, public service agencies, economic organizations and delegates at the grassroots level.

At the Conference, delegates discussed democratically and frankly and made proposals related to the structure, composition and number of delegates suitable to the situation in Ho Chi Minh City such as the proposal to increase the structure of Chinese ethnic representatives; supplement the structure of Vietnam Fatherland Front City delegates; supplement the structure of representatives for the private economic sector.../.
