On December 8, Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuoc Hai Commune, Ho Chi Minh City confirmed to VNA reporters that a 4-year-old girl living in the commune was attacked by a strange dog that was let loose, causing serious injuries to her face.
Before that, at around 7:00 p.m. on December 7, HTLĐ, daughter of Ta Van Lua, residing in Phuoc Hai commune, was playing as usual at Phuoc Hai commune square when she was suddenly attacked by a dog.
Nearby street vendors said the incident happened very quickly. People had to intervene and chase the dog away before it would let go of the girl, said Mr. Lua.
A local resident promptly took a picture of the dog, estimated to weigh about 15 kg, with yellow fur on its back, head and neck, and white belly and legs.
The dog attack caused severe injuries to the child's face, the skin around the child's eyes was deeply torn, and there were many wounds on the nose and under the chin that required stitches.
Immediately after the incident, the family took the child to Ba Ria Hospital for emergency treatment and then transferred him to Children's Hospital 1 that night for monitoring and intensive treatment. The child was vaccinated against rabies and has now been sent home for further monitoring.
Mr. Lua said the square is a place where he often takes his children to play because it is close to his house and there are many children gathered. The incident made him extremely worried, because if people had not intervened in time, the consequences could have been more serious. Currently, the family has not identified the dog's owner.
Mr. Lua reported the incident to the Phuoc Hai commune authorities for verification, and at the same time requested consideration of measures to manage stray dogs in densely populated areas to avoid similar incidents.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc added that the local government and police of Phuoc Hai commune are currently searching for the dog to take measures to handle it according to regulations.
In addition, Long Hai commune authorities organized a delegation to visit and encourage HTLĐ and his family./.
