At around 7 p.m. on December 7, 4-year-old Ta Huynh L.D. was playing in the square of Phuoc Hai commune (HCMC) when suddenly a stray dog attacked him, scratched him, and bit him on the face. "The incident happened very quickly. People around had to rush in to intervene before the dog let go," said Ta Van Lua, D.'s father.

The attack left the girl with severe facial injuries, lacerations to the upper and lower eyelids of her left eye, and multiple stitches to her nose and jaw. Immediately after the incident, her family took her to Ba Ria Hospital for emergency treatment and then transferred her to Children's Hospital 1 that night for further monitoring and treatment. She has now been vaccinated against rabies and sent home for monitoring.
Mr. Lua said the square near his house was a place where his daughter and many other children often played. If the people had not intervened in time, the consequences could have been more serious.
According to photos taken by local people, the dog that attacked the girl weighed about 15kg, had yellow fur on its back, head and neck, white belly and legs, and its owner is currently unknown.
