Egypt has just announced plans to build a large-scale film production city near the Giza Pyramids, with the aim of organizing major film projects and events of the "Pharaoh country" and internationally.
Speaking at a press conference announcing the film city project, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that Egypt's film production city will have modern studios and large-scale sets, capable of meeting the requirements of producing major global events and blockbuster films, similar to leading film centers in the US and India.
The project also includes the construction of hotels and accommodation for film crews, thereby supporting the promotion of tourism and creating a fully integrated creative hub. The site chosen for the film city project is located near the Giza Pyramids, allowing the project to benefit from the iconic landscape of the area.
Prime Minister Madbouly added that the plan is in line with the strategy for developing the Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum area to maximize the value of the heritage. Funding for the film production city project is expected to come from the private sector, while the Egyptian government also encourages all partners to participate in the project.
Previously, the Egyptian Government on November 20 issued a decree giving the Egyptian Cinema Commission full authority to license foreign film and television productions in Egypt as well as establishing a single unified digital window to handle all necessary approval and licensing processes.
The latest move by the Egyptian government reflects the efforts of the “pyramid country” to streamline film production licensing procedures, attract foreign projects, promote investment and consolidate its position as a film production center in the Middle East and North Africa./.
