On the afternoon of September 11th, Mr. Thai Van Thanh, Director of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, signed a document addressed to the Thien Nhan Commune People's Committee regarding the temporary suspension of the merger of Branch 2 of Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School.

Previously, the department received a petition from parents proposing not to merge branch campus 2 with branch campus 1, citing the long commute to school and potential safety risks for students.

"Considering that the whole country is focusing on implementing the two-tiered local government model, to ensure stability and create favorable conditions for the implementation of the new government model, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training requests the Thien Nhan Commune People's Committee to direct Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School to temporarily suspend the merger of branch 2 with branch 1," the document stated.

The Department also requested the People's Committee of the commune to continue directing the school to prepare the necessary facilities and other conditions, and to continue to raise awareness among parents. The merger will be carried out when all parents of students at branch campus 2 agree.

According to Bien Van Trung, Secretary of the Party Committee of Thien Nhan commune, the commune will request the school to strictly follow the instructions of the Department of Education and welcome students back to school tomorrow, September 12th.

Many readers of Tuoi Tre Online also offered suggestions to local authorities and schools to find common ground and ensure students' right to attend school.

Ms. Tra Hoa shared that the ultimate goal is to ensure that the students' learning is not interrupted. The fact that hundreds of students are unable to attend class is an unfortunate situation that needs to be resolved quickly and decisively.

Dong Phuong believes that if there is a plan to merge schools, it should be announced early (at least one month in advance, or from the end of the previous school year) so that parents have time to arrange for their children's transportation. At the same time, children will have time to prepare psychologically and adapt to the new environment.

"Student safety is paramount. If this concern is addressed, parents will agree, because surely everyone wants their children to study in a good, well-equipped school," Dong Phuong expressed.
