Regarding the case of a car carrying 36 passengers falling into a ravine at Bao Loc Pass, on March 31, Lam Dong Provincial Police temporarily detained driver Nguyen Van Lan (44 years old, residing in Binh Phuoc Province) to serve the investigation.
During the day, the authorities also organized a technical inspection of the passenger bus to clarify whether the vehicle had lost its brakes as the driver had previously stated.
Previously, at around 5:10 p.m. on March 30, driver Nguyen Van Lan drove a passenger car with license plate 50H-323... carrying 36 passengers on National Highway 20 in the direction from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City. When the car reached Bao Loc Pass , in the section belonging to Da M'ri town, Da Huoai district, Lam Dong, it collided with a truck traveling in the same direction ahead.
After the collision, the passenger bus veered off the left side of the road and fell into the Bao Loc pass abyss about 20 meters deep.
The consequences caused Ms. NTNT (26 years old, residing in Binh Phuoc province) to die, 2 children and another male passenger were injured and had to be hospitalized.
Initially, the driver Nguyen Van Lan admitted that he was transporting officials and employees of a company in Binh Phuoc to Da Lat city (Lam Dong) to participate in a marathon. When the car was returning with the group of passengers, the accident occurred. The driver also admitted that he lost control of his speed, the passenger car lost its brakes and collided with the back of the truck in front.
By 2:00 a.m. on March 31, Lam Dong Provincial Police had completed the rescue operation and brought the bus out of the abyss. The authorities also tested Mr. Lan and the truck driver for alcohol and drugs. The results of the tests showed that the two drivers had not violated the law.
