According to the Provincial Police Traffic Police Department, recently, the traffic police force in the province has increased many measures to detect and handle cases of alcohol concentration violations when driving vehicles.
Before, during and after the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024, traffic police across the province will increase alcohol concentration testing.
From January 11 to 31, 2024, traffic police in the province detected 445 cases of alcohol concentration violations, an increase of more than 70 cases compared to the same period in 2023.
Recently, the Traffic Police and Public Order Team of Chau Thanh A District Police coordinated with functional forces to set up checkpoints to measure alcohol levels of hundreds of drivers of cars and motorbikes traveling on National Highway 61.
Through inspection, 12 cases of drivers violating alcohol concentration were detected and recorded, all of them were on motorbikes. Among them, there were many cases of alcohol concentration exceeding the maximum limit (more than 0.4 mg/liter of breath).
Mr. H., residing in Thanh Xuan commune, Chau Thanh A district, drove with an alcohol concentration of 0.572 mg/liter of breath and admitted that he had drunk alcohol before driving. The reason he gave was that he met friends and could not refuse to drink a few cans of beer. “From this lesson, I have learned a profound lesson and will never drive after drinking alcohol or beer, it is not only unsafe but also if discovered by the traffic police, it will cause economic losses,” said Mr. H.
Similarly, Mr. T., residing in Binh Thanh commune, Phung Hiep district, drove a motorbike with an alcohol concentration of 0.470 mg/liter of breath, explaining: "I went to a party with a group of friends working at the same company, then drove home; I feel very regretful when I was fined by the traffic police."
In Chau Thanh district, the traffic police force has also increased inspections and handling of cases of alcohol concentration violations when driving vehicles in the area. Specifically, from January 12 to now, the district traffic police have punished nearly 40 cases of alcohol concentration violations.
According to Major Phan Trong Nghia, Deputy Head of the District Police, at the end of the year, people often tend to participate in festivals, meetings, summaries... If we do not do a good job of propaganda, prevention and strict handling of alcohol concentration violations, the risk of traffic accidents and collisions caused by alcohol and beer will be very high.
“Based on clearly identifying the cause, conducting basic investigations, determining key routes, areas and time frames at risk of alcohol violations, we have arranged forces and means to conduct inspections and handle them. In particular, we regularly change the time and location to strictly handle violators, including rural routes.”
According to the authorities, before, during and after Tet is the time when many summaries, parties, year-end parties and New Year greetings take place, so the number of people consuming alcohol and beer increases, then driving vehicles to participate in traffic, posing many potential risks of traffic safety and traffic accidents.
In order to effectively implement the Law on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Alcohol and Beer and Decree 100; the specialized plans of the Ministry of Public Security , the Director of the Provincial Police, the functional forces of the Provincial Police and the police of districts, towns and cities develop a plan to focus on controlling and handling thematic violations of alcohol concentration throughout the province.
Accordingly, the traffic police force in the whole province has been establishing working groups, in addition to setting up checkpoints, and increasing armed patrols during rush hours and evenings to detect and punish violations of alcohol concentration, and at the same time send notices to localities, agencies, and units of violators.
In addition, the Traffic Police Department has advised the Provincial Police Department to deploy a plan to propagate and mobilize people to strictly comply with the Road Traffic Law and legal regulations on traffic order and safety, especially the harmful effects of using alcohol and beer while driving.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Than, Head of the Provincial Traffic Police Department, cases of drunk driving violations were quite large at the beginning of the peak period, but in recent days, the number of alcohol violations has gradually decreased. This shows that the awareness of traffic participants has been raised. However, before, during and after Tet, there will be an increasing trend.
“Therefore, in addition to handling violations of alcohol concentration according to the motto “No forbidden zones, no exceptions” of the traffic police force, each person should not drive after drinking alcohol. At the same time, departments, branches and organizations need to strengthen propaganda of legal regulations on traffic order and safety, including not violating alcohol concentration when driving among cadres, civil servants and members to gradually form the habit of “not driving after drinking alcohol”, contributing to reducing traffic accidents in the area”, Lieutenant Colonel Than recommended.
With drastic and synchronous solutions from the traffic police force in the whole province, it is hoped that the situation of drivers violating alcohol concentration before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2024 in the area will be limited, contributing to building a civilized and safe traffic environment.
