The study, led by Dr. Celine Ben Hassen and Dr. Caroline Goupille from the University of Tours and the Central University Hospital of Tours (France), has discovered a major role for cholesterol in breast cancer. This is the most common type of cancer in the world - according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with the majority of cases being women.

According to News-Medical , research models show that a high-cholesterol diet in general increases the risk of developing tumors in breast cancer by about 20%, but not all types of cholesterol.

On blood test results, "blood fat" status can be reflected through 4 indicators: total cholesterol, "bad" LDL cholesterol, "good" HDL cholesterol and triglyceride.

Doctors and scientists always advise people to keep their "good" HDL cholesterol levels not too low while the other 3 indicators should not be too high. Otherwise, it will lead to dyslipidemia (blood fat), which greatly affects the risk of cardiovascular disease.

New research suggests that cholesterol affects breast cancer risk in a similar way. High levels of “good” HDL cholesterol are often accompanied by high levels of estrogen. Both of these factors promote the development and progression of breast cancer. In fact, low levels of “good” HDL cholesterol increase the risk of death. High levels of “bad” cholesterol, on the other hand, increase all breast cancer-related risks.

Therefore, scientists advise that everyone, including men - who also have a lower risk of breast cancer - should supplement "good" HDL cholesterol in their meals. "Good" HDL cholesterol is found in olive oil, beans, seeds, nuts, oily fish (mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring...), avocados, cocoa - dark chocolate, foods with natural purple color...

Meanwhile, if we want to reduce "bad" LDL cholesterol, we need to reduce red meat (beef, pork, lamb), processed meat (sausages, cold cuts, canned meat...), fried foods and water, oils and fats containing a lot of saturated fat (coconut oil, palm oil, animal fat except fish fat...).
