On the evening of June 3, a boat carrying 9 fishermen about 3 nautical miles (nearly 6 km) from Phu Quy Island was capsized by big waves and strong winds.
The captain and seven people jumped into the sea and swam to shore after about three hours. Fisherman Tran Van Truong (35 years old) was determined not to have escaped in time when the boat capsized.
This morning, the Binh Thuan Border Guard ship on duty at the island continued to search for the victim. The Phan Thiet Coastal Information Station notified nearby vessels to assist in the rescue. The vessel in distress was towed back to the island by a fishing boat.
