(Baohatinh.vn) - Aquaculture farmers in Thach Ha district (Ha Tinh) are rushing to "start" the target of 3,240 tons of aquaculture products for the whole year, in which the upcoming spring-summer crop plays a major role.

After the successful winter-spring shrimp crop, Mr. Le Dinh Hoang in Xuan Hoa Residential Area (Loc Ha Town) is urgently treating the environment in the settling pond, cleaning the cement tanks in the 2 farming areas ( 600m2 wide), maintaining the generator system, cleaning the aeration system and the fan. After completing these steps, the pond will be dried for 1 week and the entire farming tank and water supply tank will be disinfected to prevent disease outbreaks when farming the new crop.

Mr. Hoang said: “We are focusing on speeding up the cleaning and treatment of ponds so that in about 15-20 days we can release a new batch of shrimp. This is the main production crop of the year, so my family plans to release 200,000-300,000 white-leg shrimp. Aiming for a successful and safe crop, in the coming days, I will focus on contacting to order shrimp, feed, reserve water sources and be ready to supplement minerals in the water with lime, calcium carbonate CaCO3, Dolomite... In this main crop, I will strive to collect about 4-4.5 tons of commercial shrimp to create the basis for the goal of reaching 8-9 tons of commercial shrimp for the whole year”.

In Ha Lam area (Thach Son commune), Mr. Nguyen Doan Ban and many other aquaculture households are also urgently draining stagnant water in their ponds, preparing tarpaulins around the pond banks, reinforcing the dike, pumping mud from the bottom of the pond, and removing algae.

Mr. Ban also hired more people to cut weeds on the dike surface, check the safety of the power grid, maintain the oxygen-generating fan motor, prepare finances, prepare materials and breeds... According to the plan, in about 7-12 days, he will get water to raise the spring-summer crop in 3 ponds of 1.5 hectares with the plan to raise improved extensive farming: 1 pond of tiger shrimp mixed with crab, 1 pond of whiteleg shrimp mixed with mullet and 1 pond of yellowfin pomfret... With the method of alternating crops, taking short crops to raise long crops, this year, Mr. Ban strives to collect 1.5 tons of shrimp of all kinds, 500 kg of crab, 700 kg of fish.

The whole Thach Ha district has 935.5 hectares of aquaculture area (265.5 hectares of brackish water, 670 hectares of fresh water) and is striving to achieve an aquaculture output of 3,240 tons this year. At this time, brackish water farmers are focusing on preparations to ensure the spring-summer crop is produced on schedule, creating favorable conditions for the following crops in the year.

Accordingly, coastal and estuary communes such as Thinh Loc, Loc Ha town, Thach Chau, Mai Phu, Thach My, Thach Son, Thach Long and Thach Ha town will raise 105 hectares of shrimp, 158 hectares of mollusks (mussels, oysters, snails), 2.5 hectares of other species (crabs, sea bass, red snapper, mullet...) and 5,211m3 of cages on the lower reaches of Nghen river (brackish water fish), striving to reach 2,234 tons of various aquatic products for the whole year; the spring-summer crop alone accounts for about half of the total output.

In addition, freshwater farming households (670 hectares) using extensive farming methods in inland areas (mostly in Thach Kenh, Thach Ngoc, Luu Vinh Son, Hong Loc...) are also rushing into the new production season with the goal of achieving an output of 1,006 tons of traditional fish such as: grass carp, bighead carp, bighead carp, common carp, monosex tilapia...

It is forecasted that this year, the aquaculture sector in Thach Ha will be affected by climate change, natural disasters, environmental pollution, epidemics, degraded production infrastructure, increasing input material prices, unstable product prices... In that situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thach Ha district focuses on closely following the grassroots to direct and coordinate with local Party committees and authorities in thoroughly understanding the crop calendar, providing technical guidance, supporting people in choosing quality breeds; strengthening the management of the farming environment and diseases, especially shrimp diseases (white spot, acute hepatopancreatic necrosis, microsporidia); promoting the application of science and technology, encouraging intensive farming using biological products, indoor farming...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen - an officer of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thach Ha district said: To achieve the target of 3,240 tons of aquaculture products for the whole year, the department has advised the district People's Committee to develop and issue the "Project on Exploitation and Aquaculture in 2025", which clearly states the goals, tasks, and production solutions. The district People's Committee has also issued documents directing, urging, and guiding departments, functional branches, and localities to organize and implement the production project well, especially the contents in the field of aquaculture. Currently, farmers in the whole district of Thach Ha are completing preparations for the new crop with high expectations. The Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock of the district and localities closely monitor the production situation, promptly guide and handle any problems if any.
