Monument of Hero Cu Chinh Lan - an outstanding son of Nghe An was built next to Highway 433, Thung Nai Commune.
At the end of November, in the gentle golden sunlight of early winter, we visited the Cu Chinh Lan Hero Monument. Against the deep blue sky, the monument appeared majestic, quiet but full of spirit, as if still telling the story of resilient youth, of a time of war and bullets where the will never gave up. Standing before the monument, my heart suddenly calmed down, and then a deep gratitude arose for the hero who fell so that today's Fatherland could be peaceful and radiant.
Hero Cu Chinh Lan – a brave soldier born in 1930 in Quynh Doi village (Quynh Luu district, former Nghe An) – has associated his name with resounding victories on the land of Hoa Binh during the years of resistance against the French. At only 16 years old, he joined the National Guard, following the call to save the country. In the army, Cu Chinh Lan always kept in mind Uncle Ho's teachings about hatred for the enemy, the will to train and the exemplary spirit of serving the people.

The Cu Chinh Lan Hero Monument is a place to educate revolutionary traditions for cadres and people, especially the young generation.
During the 1951 Peace Campaign, he became a legend. At Giang Mo (Cao Phong), when the battlefield was exposed and the enemy fired heavily, he was the last one to go, using firepower to help the unit retreat safely, then turned back to rescue his wounded comrades. Just a few days later, at the second Giang Mo battle, when enemy tanks poured into the formation, Cu Chinh Lan did not hesitate to rush forward, using grenades to hit the "steel monster". The tank with the serial number B2885498 USA was destroyed right on Giang Mo slope, opening the movement of fighting tanks with infantry weapons in the entire army.

That feat spread his name across the front, becoming a symbol of revolutionary heroism. But only a short time later, in the attack on Co To post on December 29, 1951, Cu Chinh Lan heroically sacrificed himself at the age of 21, after clearing the way for his unit to destroy the enemy stronghold. On May 19, 1952, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces - one of the first seven people in the country to be honored with this noble title.

Thung Nai Commune maintains and beautifies the landscape of the Cu Chinh Lan monument area.
To mark that immortal feat, in 1993, his battle site was recognized as a national historical site; in 1994, the relic site and monument of Hero Cu Chinh Lan were officially built in Thung Nai commune. The monument with the image of a young soldier facing forward, his face shining with the will to win, blending into the majestic space of mountains and rivers, creates an indescribable sacred emotion.
Visiting the monument today, visitors not only review the heroic historical story, but also deeply feel the brave spirit of a son of Nghe An who fell for the peace of the nation. Ms. Bui Yen Minh, Deputy Head of the Culture Department of Thung Nai Commune, said: The Monument of Hero Cu Chinh Lan is the pride of local officials and people, and a place to educate the younger generation about tradition. The commune regularly organizes cleaning, landscape care, and connects the relic site with experiential programs for students, union members, and new recruits before leaving for military service.
Not only does it have historical value, the monument is now an important connecting point in the Hoa Binh Lake tourist route. From here, visitors continue to explore Muong Giang Mo Village, Thung Nai Port, Thac Bo Temple, community tourism villages, the Heritage Park of Vietnamese Scientists ... forming a series of journeys combining unique ecological - cultural - spiritual tourism of the lake area.
With a beautiful location, fresh landscape and profound spiritual significance, the Cu Chinh Lan Hero Monument is not only a place to kindle the pride of the Party, government and people, but also contributes to nurturing the ideals of life for the young generation - those who are and will follow in the footsteps of their fathers and brothers to build a rich and beautiful homeland.
Today, every step to Thung Nai is not only a journey to discover the beautiful landscape, but also a journey back to history, with values that never fade. And the Cu Chinh Lan monument - the flame of will and determination to win - is the sacred highlight, so that when everyone stops, they feel their hearts calm down in deep gratitude.
