On May 30, the People's Committee of Hue City issued Decision No. 1566/QD-UBND to establish a Council to assess the status and propose a plan to preserve and restore the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty Throne.

The Council is chaired by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, as Permanent Vice Chairman; Mr. Pham Dinh Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) as Vice Chairman. In addition, 9 experts in the field of research, conservation and restoration of antiquities were invited to participate.

The Council is responsible for assessing the condition of the Nguyen Dynasty Throne and proposing plans to preserve and restore this national treasure; at the same time, assisting the Chairman of the City People's Committee in considering and deciding on plans to preserve and restore the Nguyen Dynasty Throne. The Council will dissolve itself after completing its tasks.

The Nguyen Dynasty throne was recognized as a National Treasure in 2015, including the throne, throne base and canopy, made of wood, gilded with gold, and intricately carved with many themes such as "long ham tho", "la hoa bat", dragon head...

At the time of preparing the dossier for recognition as a national treasure, the artifact showed many signs of damage such as: loose mortise and tenon joints, damaged decorative glass, cracked throne arms, peeling paint, and intact decorative details.

Previously, at around 11:55 a.m. on May 24, Ho Van Phuong Tam (born in 1983, residing in Huong Long Ward, Phu Xuan District, Hue City) bought an entrance ticket to the Hue Imperial City. When entering the Thai Hoa Palace area, the subject showed unusual behavior.

Despite being invited by security guards to the back of the palace, this person still returned, sneaked into the Throne display area, screamed and climbed and sat on the artifact, breaking the front left armrest.

To prevent the subject from acting rashly and destroying other exhibits, security guards approached from a distance, reminded the subject to go outside, and called to request additional support.

At about 12:10 p.m., the police controlled Tam and reported to Dong Ba Ward Police to make an arrest report.

The case is being investigated by Hue City Police./.
