Ho Chi Minh City responds to World Intellectual Property Day

NDO - On April 25, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, the Intellectual Property Association of Ho Chi Minh City, and the College of Economics of Ho Chi Minh City jointly organized a response to World Intellectual Property Day (April 26) with the message "Intellectual Property and Music - Feel the Rhythm of Intellectual Property".

Since 2000, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has chosen April 26 every year to organize activities with different themes revolving around the field of intellectual property.

Thereby, to honor and affirm the important role of intellectual property rights in global development.

Many countries around the world, including Vietnam, have actively responded by organizing events to honor the creative achievements of people from all walks of life.

In 2025, WIPO launched the message “Intellectual Property and Music – Feel the Rhythm of Intellectual Property” to emphasize the role of intellectual property in protecting and promoting musical creativity, while affirming the value of music as an indispensable part of economic and social life.

At the event, delegates said that, following the flow of human civilization, music has always been a special form of human creativity.

With the ability to touch emotions and move souls, music becomes a source of motivation and inspiration to help each individual develop and perfect themselves.

Music is not only present in everyday life but also plays an important role in many areas of the creative industry such as: culture-arts, advertising, digital entertainment, cinema, video, musical works, performing arts and broadcasting.

Musical activities are associated with individual creativity, skills and talents, thereby creating economic value and employment opportunities through the exploitation of intellectual property rights related to musical products.

Today, music is not only a simple intellectual product but also the foundation for creating many other valuable intellectual properties such as copyright and related rights for music, songs, performances, cinematographic works, advertising programs, and even industrial property rights such as sound trademarks.

Therefore, music plays an increasingly important role in promoting the socio-economic development of each country, especially in the digital age.

At the event, the Organizing Committee announced a video clip contest with the theme "Ho Chi Minh City students with intellectual property" for students of secondary schools, colleges and universities.

This is one of the activities of Ho Chi Minh City to respond to the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.

The contest not only aims to promote and raise students' awareness of intellectual property but also encourages the creativity of the young generation, contributing to the development of Ho Chi Minh City.
