Lao Cai City meets and dialogues with people affected by natural disasters in Pom Han ward

Due to the impact of storm No. 3, in Pom Han ward, Lao Cai city, 112 households were affected by landslides and had to move; 75 households were flooded. In particular, the landslide on the negative slope of 23/9 Street, Group 15, cracked and sunken, forcing 31 households here to move, making life very difficult.

After discovering the landslide, the city and local authorities moved all people and property to a safe location. To ease the difficulties for households, the city directed sectors and organizations to call for support with necessities and rent for households.

Representatives of professional agencies explained to people about the construction plan.

On March 27, 2025, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province issued Decision No. 835/QD-UBND declaring a natural disaster emergency in Pom Han ward. On March 28, 2025, a decision was made to issue an emergency construction order, a project to build embankments to prevent landslides in residential areas of groups 13, 14, and 15 along 23/9 Street.

At the conference, after listening to the representative of the consulting unit presenting the current situation and plans to overcome the landslide, the households expressed many opinions.

In particular, the opinions focused on the following contents: Proposal to continue surveying landslide locations behind residential areas; factors to ensure the safety of embankment works; construction time, completion of embankment works...

People's representatives speak out.

Receiving opinions and recommendations from the people, Comrade Giang Thi Dung, Secretary of Lao Cai City Party Committee, shared the difficulties of households affected by landslides.

Comrade Giang Thi Dung affirmed: Based on reality, the city has mobilized resources to support rent for households. Regarding the policy on supporting housing repair costs, the city will implement according to current regulations of the province.

Comrade Giang Thi Dung also suggested that Pom Han ward increase propaganda to people about the policies and regulations of the State and the province in supporting people affected by natural disasters to repair and build houses.

At the same time, assign the city's political and social organizations to continue to grasp the situation of people affected by landslides in the area to continue mobilizing resources and supporting people to ensure their lives.

Comrade Giang Thi Dung also hopes and requests that local households trust and support the city's policy, agree, and create favorable conditions for the implementation of the embankment construction project to be smooth, ensuring progress and safety, in order to soon stabilize people's lives.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Chairman of Lao Cai City People's Committee, the embankment project is expected to start on April 12. The city will direct construction units to speed up the progress and complete the project in August 2025.
