Taylor Swift's film is the 19th-highest-grossing release of the year worldwide , surpassing Sound of Freedom ($248 million) and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves ($208 million). In North America, The Eras Tour is the 11th-highest-grossing release of 2023, surpassing Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One ($172 million) and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ($174 million).

In its opening weekend (from November 3), The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing musical film in North American box office history, surpassing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never in 2011 ($73 million). The Eras Tour is competing with Michael Jackson's 2009 musical film This Is It ($261 million).
The Eras Tour started out as a Thursday-to-Sunday theater-only tour, with tickets priced higher than regular movies. Taylor Swift set the adult admission price at $19.89, a nod to her birth year of 1989 and her 2014 album 1989. Children and seniors were charged $13.13, a nod to her lucky number, 13.
The Eras Tour will be released online on December 13.
In addition to the unusual schedule and price, The Eras Tour is being distributed by AMC Theaters, the world's largest theater chain, rather than a major studio. Beyoncé struck a similar deal with AMC Theaters for her musical Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé , which opens on December 1.
Taylor Swift produced the film herself and took in about 57% of the ticket sales. After its theatrical release, the pop star may strike a separate deal to bring the musical to the small screen. On November 27, she announced that The Eras Tour would be released online on her birthday, December 13, and that the online version would include three additional songs from The Eras Tour that were not included in the theatrical release.
