" Bridge" from grassroots playgrounds
It has been more than 2 months since the 2nd Le Thuy District Veterans Football Tournament 2025 ended, but the organizers, football lovers in Quang Binh and especially the players from 8 teams still have many beautiful memories on and off the field. In this tournament, Thend FC - Quang Tri is the only out-of-province team, always receiving attention and enthusiastic support from the organizers, the teams and love from the audience.
“It is hard to express the joy when more than 20 players of Thend FC were warmly welcomed by players and football lovers in Quang Binh. Since the team arrived to participate in the tournament, the brothers in Le Thuy have always created the best conditions for accommodation, training and competition.
During the competition, we received encouragement and wholehearted support from the local people. In response to that sincerity, we contributed a beautiful style of play, reaping the worthy result of winning the championship of the tournament", Mr. Nguyen Thanh, a member of Thend FC happily said.
Before this tournament, Thend FC also participated in many other tournaments in Quang Binh and received sincere affection, valuable support in competition as well as had intimate exchanges and solidarity off the field.
Mr. Truong Van Quy, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Le Thuy District Veterans Football Tournament in 2025, said: “When organizing the tournament, I always want to create cohesion and enhance exchanges between the football teams of the two provinces of Quang Binh and Quang Tri . The football teams from Quang Tri bring a dedicated playing style, beautiful play and extremely fair-play.
In my opinion, the fans and people of Le Thuy in particular, and Quang Binh in general, are very fond of and excited to watch Quang Tri players compete. With the participation of teams from Quang Tri, the tournament becomes more attractive and dramatic, attracting the attention of many audiences and sponsors, especially increasing the cohesion and efficiency of each charity fundraising activity.

In addition to the Le Thuy District Football Tournament, Mr. Truong Van Quy also organized other football tournaments with the participation of many clubs from Quang Tri. The participation of Quang Tri's best players has contributed to promoting the Le Thuy football movement and Quang Binh football to develop more strongly. With the spirit of exchange and connection of passion, Mr. Quy and football lovers in Quang Binh established a football team to participate in many football tournaments held in Quang Tri. He said that he plans to organize a 7-a-side football tournament, inviting many teams in and outside the region to participate, creating a playground, strengthening solidarity in the sports world after the two provinces officially merge.
The close relationship and solidarity between Quang Tri and Quang Binh players has existed for many years and continues to this day. That was when many amateur players and Quang Tri movement “joined” to play for football clubs in Quang Binh. According to many football “bosses” in Quang Binh, Quang Tri players not only play football well but also live very emotionally. Their presence has contributed significantly to improving the achievements of Quang Binh football teams in football tournaments in the Central region.
Player Hoang Phu Quy shared: “Every time I receive an invitation to play for a football team in Quang Binh, I, like many other Quang Tri players, am willing and excited. Not only do we stand shoulder to shoulder with Quang Binh players to achieve great achievements in competition, we also see the hearts and feelings of the people and feel the hospitality and friendliness of the people of Quang Binh.”
Not only football, many other sports have also become a special "bridge" for people in the two lands of Quang Binh - Quang Tri to become closer. Mr. Nguyen Truc, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Dong Ha City Open Chess Club Tournament, said that after 3 successful seasons, the tournament had 6 clubs from Quang Binh province participating, including: Dong Hoi City Chess Club, Le Thuy District Young Talent Chess Club, Dong Hoi City Sports Center Chess Club, Bac Ly Chess Club, Pano Chess Quang Binh Chess Center, Queen Chess Club Quang Binh Chess Club.
According to Mr. Truc, the chess movement in Quang Binh has been built and developed for quite a long time, the quality of athletes in Quang Binh is quite good. Among them, there are many athletes who won medals at the national youth tournament and the national Phu Dong Sports Festival. In addition to participating in the competition, the clubs in Quang Binh actively support the organization, referees, flags, competition clocks... for the chess tournaments in Dong Ha.
The achievements of Quang Binh sports delegations at tournaments with the "brand" of Quang Tri have also contributed to improving the professional quality and raising the level of the tournament. Typically, at the Traditional Boat Racing Festival of Trieu Phong District in 2025, the Le Thuy District boat racing team won first prize in the men's 12-rower dragon boat competition in category A; at the Quang Tri Province Open Badminton Championship for all ages in 2025, the Quang Binh Provincial Badminton Club won third prize overall. In volleyball, chess, table tennis, etc., many Quang Binh athletes competing for Quang Tri Sports Clubs have brought home many impressive achievements.

Expect new developments
The merger of Quang Tri and Quang Binh into a new province named Quang Tri is the wish of many people, including the sports community. “After many years of accompanying chess tournaments, we have seen that both provinces have a developed chess movement, have organized many quality tournaments in the Central region, and have many promising young athletes competing successfully in national youth and school sports tournaments.
Therefore, the merger will open up opportunities for the further development of the new Quang Tri province chess department, which can compete "fairly" with other provinces and cities. However, to develop the new provincial chess movement, in my opinion, chess clubs and training centers need to cooperate, unite, and closely unify. I hope the province will pay attention to supporting the establishment of the provincial Chess Federation and support professional work and funding so that athletes have more opportunities to compete in many national and international chess tournaments," said Mr. Truc.
Vice President of Dong Hoi Chess Club Nguyen Trung Kien also has high expectations for the positive development of the province's sports movement when Quang Binh - Quang Tri become a joint province. He said that he is always wondering how to have a playground to develop the intelligence and bravery of young people, while raising the status of chess. Dong Hoi Chess Club was established in 2019 with 2 coaches meeting national coach standards, 1 coach meeting referee standards of the International Chess Federation. The club regularly organizes open chess tournaments, creating a playground for athletes in the Central region; participating in 3 tournaments in Quang Tri (with nearly 100 athletes) and many national youth tournaments with high results.
“Currently, there is still no suitable treatment to motivate athletes to pursue high-level chess. Therefore, I hope that the new Quang Tri province will pay attention to and invest in developing high-performance chess; focus on training more “seeds” for chess teams to participate in chess tournaments at all levels to achieve high results, bringing glory to the homeland,” Mr. Kien hopes.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri Phan Van Hoa, in recent times, many grassroots sports tournaments have been organized in Quang Binh and Quang Tri, creating playgrounds, promoting the development of the sports movement of the two provinces, and connecting the passion and affection between athletes and local people. Quang Binh and Quang Tri both have strengths in many sports such as chess, volleyball, badminton, rowing, football, table tennis, etc. Through exchange activities, competitions and sustainable connections, grassroots tournaments will create a foundation for grassroots sports to develop more comprehensively when the provinces are merged.
The existing strengths of the two provinces will be strongly promoted in a united and unified bloc. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri will work with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Binh to provide development orientations for the new provincial sports, on the basis of promoting the strengths and enthusiasm of the coaches, athletes and sports staff of both provinces.
