Construction of fences and site clearance for the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport

On August 4, functional forces of Phu Quoc special economic zone (An Giang) deployed to level the ground and build protective fences on land under the management of Phu Quoc Airport Authority.

This is an important preparatory step to serve the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project, aiming to organize the APEC Summit Week 2027. At the same time, it aims to rectify the situation of encroachment on public land and illegal land use.

The project aims not only to ensure infrastructure for APEC 2027, but also to strengthen land management, prevent encroachment, illegal construction and raise awareness of law compliance in the community. The construction of protective fences and land leveling will help control the construction area, preventing unauthorized access by unrelated parties.

The People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone has assigned specific tasks to specialized departments to coordinate implementation. In particular, the Urban Management Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the People's Committee of Duong To Ward will be responsible for determining boundary markers, mobilizing people, and handling administrative violations. The Special Zone Police will ensure security and order during the construction process, and handle any obstructions. The Phu Quoc Medical Center will prepare first aid equipment, and the Finance - Planning Department will propose funding for implementation.

Previously, on June 25, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency - Kien Giang Provincial Police coordinated with professional units and local police to issue a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute 5 subjects for the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" by fraudulently selling land under State management at Phu Quoc International Airport Authority (Phu Quoc International Airport).

Expanding the case, on July 31, An Giang Provincial Police temporarily detained the couple Nguyen Quoc Son (50 years old) and Nguyen Thi Chang (51 years old, residing in Suoi May, Phu Quoc) for fraudulently selling land belonging to the Phu Quoc International Airport project. This is an expansion of the investigation from the previous case, when 5 other members of Son's family, including his biological father, Mr. Nguyen Van Dien, were prosecuted in June 2025. A total of 7 people were arrested, appropriating more than 10 billion VND from the people.
