According to Neowin , data shows that Windows 11's market share reached 28.18%, up 0.35% from the previous month and 9.05% year-on-year. Meanwhile, after five consecutive months of decline (primarily due to the growth of Windows 11's market share), Windows 10 increased by 0.76% to 67.23% (down 6.08% year-on-year).
Windows 11's market share continues to improve.
With the market share disparity, Windows 10 remains the dominant operating system in the Windows market, and it will be a long time before Windows 11 can catch up. However, Microsoft seems prepared for further growth in Windows 11 market share by displaying more prompts to encourage Windows 10 users to upgrade.
Recently, Microsoft stated that Windows 10 computers are no longer eligible for the Windows 11 upgrade invitation starting in April 2024. However, Windows 11 remains an optional update, meaning users can only choose to upgrade once Windows 10 is no longer fully supported by Microsoft, which is expected in October 2025.
According to Statcounter's analysis of Windows market share as of February 2024, Windows 10 holds 67.23%; Windows 11 holds 28.18%; Windows 7 holds 3.1%; Windows 8.1 holds 0.66%; and Windows XP holds 0.52%.
Analysts added that 2024 looks set to be a crucial year for Windows 11, as manufacturers will soon begin releasing new computers heavily focused on artificial intelligence (AI), and Microsoft is also preparing to release the major 24H2 update with AI-powered experiences for the operating system. Meanwhile, users can now install the Moment 5 update, which was released on February 28th.
