On the morning of June 5, more than 76,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City went to 142 examination councils to complete procedures and attend examination regulations.
The 2025 10th grade entrance exam has 76,435 candidates registered. Meanwhile, the total target is 70,070 students, achieving an admission rate of about 79%.
Thus, there are only more than 6,000 candidates who failed to pass the public school entrance exam, a sharp decrease compared to the level of about 20,000 candidates in previous years. Meanwhile, the private school system has nearly 19,500 places.
According to the Department of Education and Training, the number of 9th grade students has decreased significantly compared to previous years, which means less competitive pressure to enter public 10th grade.

This is also evident in the sharp decrease in the initial competition ratio for admission to schools. This year, in the non-specialized high school sector, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School has the highest competition ratio in the city when calculated in total (both integrated and regular classes) at 1/2.9.
If we only count the regular class, the competition ratio of this school is 1/3.14. This is also the highest and only competition ratio reaching 3.0 or higher. Another notable point is that the competition ratio of leading schools such as Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Gia Dinh has decreased sharply, "falling out" of the top 10 for the first time.
On the other hand, 44 schools have a competition ratio of less than 1, meaning that the number of candidates applying is less than the quota. If applying to these schools, candidates have a higher chance of being admitted.

The competition ratio is calculated based on the initial published data and may change after adjusting preferences (Chart: Huyen Nguyen).
Entering the exam with a relaxed mindset, Nguyen Huynh Le Vi, a student at Hung Vuong Secondary School, confidently shared that she had prepared about 80% of the knowledge. Vi said that the high admission rate and the "easier" competition rate compared to many years ago helped her reduce the psychological burden.
"We are less afraid of failing," Vi said with a smile. Besides the specialized exam, Vi's first wish is to enter Mac Dinh Chi High School. Although this year's exam is expected to have changes due to the application of the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, Le Vi still maintains her confidence thanks to the careful review of her teachers.

Similarly, Nguyen Trang Linh, a student at Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School, also prepared a very calm mindset.
"Once you have learned the knowledge, just relax. I just need to prepare mentally and physically," Linh said. However, Trang Linh affirmed that she will still maintain high concentration, because her "opponents" have certainly prepared very carefully.
Not too confident, Duc Cuong, a student at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School, said he felt happy because he really likes studying and each test will help assess his knowledge. The male student seemed nervous because this is a decisive exam to enter high school.

At the Trung Vuong High School exam site, Le Huynh Lan Chi, from Huynh Van Nghe Secondary School, admitted that she was still a bit nervous. Although she determined that this was an opportunity to test herself, Lan Chi still focused on studying in class and actively looked up exam questions online, as well as review instructions from several schools to best prepare.
At the examination board of Nguyen Du High School (District 10), it was generally noted that most candidates were present on time. However, there were still some candidates who arrived 20 minutes later than the scheduled time. The examination invigilators had to remind candidates to arrive on time for the exam tomorrow to ensure compliance with regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Minh, Chairman of the Examination Council of Nguyen Du High School, said that this is a specialized examination site, the school has arranged 20 examination rooms for specialized subjects such as literature and math. The Council has 84 examination service staff from 5 units.

During the process of guiding candidates into the examination room, the invigilators promptly discovered and reminded some candidates of bringing fx-880 calculators, which are not allowed in the examination room, or of bringing erasers. These are important notes to ensure fairness and compliance with the examination regulations.
The exam will take place over 2 days, June 6-7, with 3 subjects: math, literature (120 minutes/subject) and foreign language (90 minutes). Candidates applying to specialized schools and integrated classes will take an additional exam in the corresponding specialized or integrated subject (150 minutes).
The expected exam marking time is June 8-25. The exam scores, benchmark scores and review time will be announced later by the Department of Education and Training, based on the actual marking progress and processing of results.
