On April 19, the German Railway and Transport Union (EVG) announced plans for a nationwide strike on April 21.
According to EVG, the strike is expected to start at 3:00 a.m. on April 21 local time (8:00 a.m. on the same day Vietnam time) and end at 11:00 a.m. on the same day (local time, about 4:00 p.m. Vietnam time).
EVG warned that the strike could affect 50 companies, including the German national railway company (Deutsch Bahn), disrupting public transport , so commuters need to prepare alternative travel options.
The EVG union is negotiating with employers on behalf of 230,000 workers for a 12% pay increase, or at least 650 euros ($712) a month.
Meanwhile, Deutsche Bahn proposed a 5% pay increase, along with a one-off payment of up to 2,500 euros.
High inflation in Europe's largest economy has led to a wave of strikes in recent months, as workers demand pay rises to offset rising living costs.
The Verdi union, which represents about 2.5 million workers, has also called on security guards to strike at three airports on April 20 and 21.
Hamburg Airport announced on April 18 that all flights departing from the airport will be canceled or take off without passengers.
It is estimated that 80,000 passengers could be affected./.
