Goalkeeper Lammens is about to debut at MU |
Lammens was not involved in the clash with Mechelen on the evening of August 24, when his move to Old Trafford was about to be completed. The 23-year-old goalkeeper was replaced by Yannick Thoelen in the starting lineup, and was not even on the bench.
Manchester United are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer to provide competition for Andre Onana. Onana was left out of the Premier League opener, with Altay Bayindir starting against Arsenal. However, the Turkish goalkeeper disappointed in his fifth Premier League appearance, making an error leading to Riccardo Calafiori's goal in a 1-0 defeat.
Despite wanting to strengthen their goalkeeping squad, Manchester United have insisted that they will keep Onana and have rejected several offers from other clubs. The Old Trafford outfit have considered signing Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, but the Argentine goalkeeper's price tag is believed to be too high.
Lammens, who is 1.93 metres tall, is a Belgium youth international. He made his debut for Club Brugge in July 2021 before moving to Antwerp two years later. Lammens made his debut for the club in the Champions League, in a defeat to Porto in November of the same year.
Between 1998 and 2013, Manchester United had a partnership agreement with Antwerp, allowing many young players who came through the Carrington academy to gain experience in Belgium. The likes of John O'Shea, Danny Simpson and even current Red Devils goalkeeper Tom Heaton all played for Antwerp on loan during this period.
