Letter from Phan Thiet: About Phan Thiet!

Việt NamViệt Nam31/03/2025

My dear friends! The season of vibrant yellow melaleuca flowers stretching from Hoa Phu, Hoa Thang, and Mui Ne ended about a month after Tet.

The vibrant yellow cassia flowers that swayed in clusters along the streets of Phan Thiet had faded not long ago. Now, however, the season of the golden bellflower has arrived, a strange and unexpected sight, as if one day people suddenly discover that this ordinary green tree shares the same name as a flower with a shape resembling small bells clustered together in brilliant yellow. For me, this is probably the first season of golden bellflowers in Phan Thiet, either because it's a recent discovery or because the flowers are now covering many streets in a golden hue. But the most spectacular displays can be seen next to Lotte Supermarket or along the side street of Le Thanh Nghi… And if you want to see other flowers in bloom at this time, such as bougainvillea and crape myrtle, they all add splashes of color to the streets, especially Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, the road leading to the beach.

Thanks to gentle breezes and warm sunshine, Phan Thiet, a coastal city, now boasts not only "blue sea, white sand, and golden sunshine" but also a continuous cycle of blooming flowers that lasts until the first one or two early season rains arrive. Perhaps this peaceful atmosphere is contributing to the recent surge in tourist numbers in Phan Thiet. For example, in the first quarter of this year, the number of visitors increased by 40% compared to the same period last year, including a rise in international tourists. This positive trend is expected to continue into the upcoming winter holiday season, not only because the global tourism market has recovered strongly, but also because on March 28th, Binh Thuan and Vietnam Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding for comprehensive cooperation between the two sides. This opens up opportunities to strongly promote tourism, investment, trade, and air connectivity between the two countries.

According to the agreement, the two sides will closely cooperate in promoting the local image and enhancing Binh Thuan's position as a leading tourist destination in the South Central region and on the international tourism map. Therefore, when Phan Thiet airport comes into operation, reportedly next year, Vietnam Airlines will be the first to establish connections with other areas. Vietnam Airlines leaders hope Binh Thuan will strengthen and develop the dragon boat racing movement... Meanwhile, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province, Do Huu Huy, invited Vietnam Airlines to consider opening a training center for technicians and flight attendants in Phan Thiet city…

My dear friend, I miss you!

It's an invitation to return to Phan Thiet. Such invitations have a grand scale, aimed at revitalizing and empowering a region that is already poised for connection. But alongside these, there are also very familiar, heartfelt invitations from people who weren't born in Phan Thiet and, after wandering abroad, call it their homeland. They may have visited a few times and fallen in love with this land. Perhaps this is the case with the song "Come to Phan Thiet with me" by Cao Van Thong, former member of the Central Inspection Committee. Therefore, the lyrics can be understood as the overflowing words of someone standing before the beautiful scenery of Phan Thiet, thinking of their loved one. The author sends this love to his beloved through an invitation to return to Phan Thiet, along with all the dream scenarios for a happy reunion.

"Are you going to Phan Thiet, my love? Let's go together to admire the clear blue sea. Let's hold hands and play in the waves. Let's shake off the dust of this earthly life."

"My love, will you come to Phan Thiet with me? To admire the sky, the clouds, and the clear blue sea. To share all our love, letting the waves wash over us. May our love remain sweet and tender forever."

Then it overflows at the end of the song through an imperative sentence, bringing it to a close.

"Come to Phan Thiet with me, my love. Let's stroll around and share passionate moments. With loving eyes and fervent kisses, let our love overflow with intoxicating intensity."

In March, this song was used by a music video production team and singer Bao Nam in Phan Thiet. That day, while filming the scenes for the song, I felt a strong urge to tell my friend, "Please arrange a trip to Phan Thiet." Phan Thiet is very different now, with investors flocking in because of its allure as a promised land…
