Prime Minister asks New Zealand to support and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses

On the occasion of attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, China, on June 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a bilateral meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

At the meeting, the two Prime Ministers were pleased to note the positive progress in bilateral relations in recent times, in which the two sides have maintained regular exchanges of high-level delegations; bilateral trade has maintained rapid growth, reaching nearly 1.3 billion USD in 2022 in the context of many difficulties and challenges.

Believing that the two countries still have much room to further promote economic and trade cooperation, the two Prime Ministers suggested that relevant ministries and sectors step up promotion activities, further open markets for each other's goods, including agricultural products, and aim to bring two-way trade turnover to 2 billion USD in 2024.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to promote the strategic partnership with New Zealand. The Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to New Zealand Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro; at the same time, affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will create conditions and encourage New Zealand businesses to invest in Vietnam in areas where New Zealand has strengths and Vietnam has great demand such as education and training, processing and manufacturing technology, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and construction; and requested New Zealand to support and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in New Zealand.

New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in socio-economic recovery and development; and expressed his agreement with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s ideas and proposals, especially promoting bilateral cooperation with economic and trade as the focus, as well as enhancing coordination between the two sides at multilateral forums.

The New Zealand Prime Minister emphasized his support for strengthening ASEAN's central role in regional issues. The two leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, security, stability, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, promoting dialogue, enhancing trust, and resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
