The Prime Minister requested Saigon Newport Corporation to invest in developing the inland waterway port system.

In the jubilant atmosphere of the first production launch of the year, on the evening of January 29, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ceremony to launch the first shipment of the year at Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port, Ho Chi Minh City of Tan Cang Saigon Corporation under the Navy.

Also attending were Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; Party Central Committee members: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha; Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai; Deputy Minister of National Defense Pham Hoai Nam; leaders of several ministries and branches; leaders of the Navy and Military Region 7.

Saigon Newport Corporation, from an old military port, after 34 years of construction and development, has become a successful brand not only in the domestic maritime economic sector but also internationally; effectively implementing the policy of "combining national defense and security with economy; economy with national defense and security".

With the name Saigon Military Port, the Corporation has worked with forces in the Army and Navy to play a core role in developing the marine economy while firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.

Tan Cang Saigon Corporation has always been an effective business unit, one of the leading enterprises of the whole army. Tan Cang Saigon Corporation is currently managing and operating 08 container ports (including 03 modern, largest container ports in Vietnam), accounting for 55% of the country's import-export container market share; ranked 18/20 in the group of container port clusters with the largest output in the world; currently proposed in the group of 07 large-scale state-owned enterprises, promoting the leading and pioneering role of the country's economy.

In 2022, despite facing many difficulties, Tan Cang Saigon Corporation is still proactive, determined, and strives to complete its assigned tasks well. In particular, the total revenue of the system increased by 5.4%; especially, profit increased sharply by 16.2% (reaching over 4,500 billion VND); budget contribution was over 1,900 billion VND. For the 7th consecutive time, the Corporation was honored as "National Brand"; for the 4th time, it won the "Typical Enterprise for Workers" Award.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy at witnessing the urgent, hurried, enthusiastic and passionate working atmosphere; thousands of cargo containers were continuously loaded and unloaded, following ocean-going ships, bringing spring colors and good luck and fortune of Vietnam to friends around the world.

On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister warmly congratulated, highly appreciated and commended the achievements of the leadership, officers, employees and workers of Saigon Newport Corporation in 2022 and over the past years, which have actively contributed to socio-economic development and the cause of national construction and protection.

"Saigon New Port Corporation is truly a fighting army, a working army, a labor and production army," the Prime Minister pointed out.

The Prime Minister expressed his excitement at being present at one of the most important ports of Saigon Newport Corporation - Tan Cang Cat Lai port - the largest seaport in Vietnam, the largest gateway for import and export goods in the country - one of the "spearheads" contributing about 18% of the total budget revenue of Ho Chi Minh City - the "economic locomotive" of the country.

According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in 2023, the world and domestic situation will continue to have many complex, unpredictable and difficult developments; in which there will be more difficulties and challenges. However, we are confident that we will successfully complete the socio-economic development goals in 2023: maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, promoting growth and ensuring major balances of the economy.

The Prime Minister emphasized that to carry out the above tasks, ensuring the circulation of import and export goods is one of the important conditions. The Government and the Prime Minister continue to share and listen; urgently perfect policy mechanisms, promote administrative procedure reform, improve the investment and business environment and have timely support solutions to remove difficulties and create favorable conditions for business development.

The Head of Government also requested that enterprises operating in the field of transportation and logistics work together to build and develop a modern and efficient Vietnamese transportation and logistics industry that reaches the advanced level of the region and the world; both meeting the import and export needs of enterprises and minimizing service costs, contributing to improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods.

On the side of Saigon Newport Corporation, the Prime Minister hoped and requested that comrades continue to unite, maintain and promote the tradition of Heroic Labor in the renovation period, the fine tradition of 34 years of construction and development, organize production and business effectively and safely; focus on performing the core role in investing in and exploiting deep-water ports at strategic locations in terms of geopolitics, geo-economics, geo-military with the orientation of development and competition on par with major seaports in the region and the world; always link the interests of enterprises with the interests of the nation and people; deserve to be a pioneer in implementing the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

"I propose that Tan Cang Saigon Corporation invest in developing the inland waterway port system, especially in the Mekong Delta and the South, thereby contributing to the development of the river economy in this region," the Prime Minister suggested.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government, ministries, central and local branches will always accompany, support and help for the sustainable development of the Corporation in particular and the Vietnamese business community in general; believing that 2023 will continue to be a successful year for Saigon Newport Corporation with many outstanding achievements, many new growth milestones, towards the goal of becoming "Vietnam's leading economic - defense group in the field of marine economy and logistics services; prestigious brand, global quality"; successfully completing the mission of connecting the circulation of goods, developing the marine economy, raising the national level; contributing to building and protecting the Fatherland, worthy of the trust of the Party, State, Government and People.

At the ceremony, the Prime Minister and delegates performed the ceremony of issuing orders to carry out the first shipment of the year of Quy Mao 2023 of Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port, Saigon New Port Corporation, bringing with it expectations and beliefs in a year of vibrant and successful import-export activities, with strong growth in turnover./.
