On October 8th, immediately after the closing of the 13th Central Committee Meeting of the 13th Party Congress, in response to the severe flooding caused by heavy rains in many northern provinces, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Thai Nguyen province to inspect the situation and direct efforts to mitigate the consequences of the natural disaster and stabilize the lives of people in the flooded areas.

In Thai Nguyen province, due to the influence of the circulation of typhoon No. 11 (Matmo), heavy rain occurred over a wide area from the night of October 6th to October 7th, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 250-400 mm, and in some places exceeding 500 mm.

Heavy rains caused massive flooding, exceeding historical records; nearly 50 communes and wards in Thai Nguyen province were submerged, and dozens of areas were isolated.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Phan Dinh Phung and Quan Trieu wards in Thai Nguyen province to inspect the situation – areas currently experiencing severe flooding, isolation, and disruption, with hundreds of households having their homes submerged, suffering heavy economic losses, and facing extremely difficult living conditions.

The Prime Minister instructed Thai Nguyen province to coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to review areas with deep flooding and landslide risks, proactively relocate residents to safe areas, and prioritize ensuring people's lives. At the same time, all necessary measures must be taken to reach isolated areas to provide food and water, ensuring that no one goes hungry or is left homeless.

In the long term, the Government has agreed to invest in and upgrade the dike and flood control system along the Cau River to ensure sustainable safety.
