Prime Minister: Banking industry contributes to the country's rapid and sustainable development

(Dan Tri) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the role of the banking sector in the country's rapid and sustainable development, and awarded this unit 32 words.

On November 24, in Hanoi , the State Bank held the 9th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Banking Industry.

Speaking at the Congress, State Bank Governor Nguyen Thi Hong said that over the past five years, Vietnam has faced many difficulties and challenges from the Covid-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and complex and unpredictable developments in the economic and political situation in the world and domestically...

However, the State Bank has closely followed the direction of the Party and the State to direct collectives and individuals in the banking sector to strive to fulfill assigned political tasks, achieving many important and comprehensive results in all aspects of work.

Governor Nguyen Thi Hong emphasized that the achievements of the banking sector have made an important contribution to controlling inflation, stabilizing the macro- economy , promoting the economy to recover quickly after the Covid-19 pandemic and develop strongly, contributing positively to the country's overall results in the 2021-2025 period.

In his speech at the Congress, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh summarized the achievements of the banking industry in recent times in 32 words: "Open institutions, pioneering infrastructure, flexible policies, reasonable management, effective solutions, developing banks, benefiting people, and a self-reliant country".

The Prime Minister pointed out that the banking sector has promptly completed the legal institutions on currency and banking activities and has made breakthroughs; monetary policy continues to be managed proactively, flexibly, promptly, effectively, coordinated synchronously, harmoniously, and closely with fiscal policy and other macroeconomic policies; strong restructuring and compulsory transfer of 4 banks.

The head of the Government praised the banking sector for always being a pioneer and leader in digital transformation; implementing the project to streamline the apparatus, ensuring smooth, continuous, safe, effective operations, without interruption, without congestion, without affecting credit institutions, people and businesses; and effectively implementing patriotic emulation movements.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the world is witnessing unprecedented profound changes in politics, economics, strategic competition, strong shifts in financial, economic and production centers, and the explosion of science and technology. Along with that are increasingly present challenges in climate change, energy security, traditional and non-traditional security.

According to the Prime Minister, this is both a challenge and an opportunity for strong development for countries, including Vietnam - which has a stable political system and needs to continue to ensure macroeconomic stability.

To achieve the two 100-year strategic goals in 2030 and 2045, the Party Central Committee and the Politburo have set a target of continuous double-digit growth in the future.

“This is an extremely difficult goal but it is impossible; we must stabilize to develop, develop to stabilize,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister further outlined the requirements in the coming period as being to create, accompany, and share for the people, contributing to the country's rapid and sustainable development.

The head of the Government requested the industry to focus on promoting digital transformation, applying science and technology, stimulating innovation; improving quality and standardizing operations and services towards international practices. Along with that, the banking industry must strengthen credit control, ensuring proper and accurate credit growth.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that Vietnam is a developing economy with a large capital demand but cannot rely solely on the capital channel from banks. Therefore, it is necessary to promote the development of the capital market, especially the bond and stock markets, in parallel with saving costs and promoting the disbursement of public investment.

The Prime Minister directed the banking sector to give top priority to the goal of macroeconomic stability and inflation control, thereby creating a foundation to promote rapid, sustainable growth and enhance the resilience of the economy.

At the 9th Banking Industry Patriotic Emulation Congress, responding to the Prime Minister's call, the banking industry donated 150 billion VND to support people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and floods through the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
