Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh departs for Laos to co-chair the 48th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

(laichau.gov.vn) On the morning of December 2, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left for the Lao People's Democratic Republic to attend the High-level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and co-chair the 48th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee from December 2 to 3 at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The official delegation with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attending the 48th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee and bilateral activities in Laos included: Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee Nguyen Chi Dung; Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang; Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Minister of Finance, Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee Nguyen Van Thang; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh; Minister of Home Affairs Do Thanh Binh; Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh; Deputy Minister of Public Security Dang Hong Duc; Deputy Head of the Government Office Trinh Manh Linh; Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam.

The working trip took place in the context of the political relationship and strategic trust between Vietnam and Laos continuing to be consolidated and tightened, affirming the core role and overall orientation in the relationship between the two countries.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries has seen many developments. Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reached 2.25 billion USD. In the first 10 months of 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached 2.56 billion USD. Both sides strive to increase two-way trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the next 2-3 years.

As of April 2025, Vietnam has 267 investment projects in Laos with a total registered capital of 5.63 billion USD. Many Vietnamese investment projects operate effectively, contributing positively to socio-economic development, creating jobs and increasing income for thousands of workers, supplementing revenue for the Lao budget, especially in the fields of telecommunications, banking, rubber planting and processing, food production and processing, and milk.

The fields of security-defense, education-training, culture, tourism, etc. continue to be strengthened. Vietnam and Laos always closely coordinate and support each other in multilateral and regional forums. The two sides continue to strengthen cooperation and coordination with other ASEAN member countries in building the ASEAN Community and maintaining ASEAN solidarity and consensus on strategic issues in the region.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip to co-chair the 48th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee is of great significance in realizing the goals set out at the high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, especially promoting practical cooperation, contributing to continuing to consolidate and strengthen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

At the 48th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee, the two Government delegations will review and assess the implementation of agreements in the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Plan for the 2021-2025 period and 2025; at the same time, discuss and agree on cooperation directions and tasks for the 2026-2030 period and 2026, in order to concretize the Conclusion of the High-level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Within the framework of the meeting, the two sides will sign a number of important cooperation documents, contributing to realizing the cooperation orientation between the two Governments in the coming time./.
