Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives Cambodian Minister of Commerce

On the evening of April 28, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Cambodian Minister of Commerce - Ms. Cham Nimul and senior officials of the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce who are on a working visit to Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight at the fact that, despite many challenges, Cambodia has made impressive and comprehensive achievements in national development, with high economic growth, strong increase in import and export turnover, and improved people's lives. Cambodia's role and position have been constantly enhanced.

The Prime Minister believes that under the wise reign of King Norodom Sihamoni, the correct leadership of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) led by President Hun Sen and the Government headed by Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia will continue to be more successful in national construction and development.

Thanking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to receive the delegation, Cambodian Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul congratulated Vietnam on the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification, as well as Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in general; and conveyed the best wishes of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Minister Cham Nimul said that she and the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade had just had a very successful meeting; they agreed to establish a Vietnam - Cambodia Bilateral Trade Cooperation Committee to promote trade cooperation between the two countries, especially border trade.

The Cambodian Minister of Commerce affirmed that the two Ministries will strive to continue promoting the tradition of neighborly relations, solidarity, friendship and long-standing attachment to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD, especially in the context of world trade facing difficulties and challenges, promoting trade development, making it more vibrant, not only between the two countries but also contributing to trade development in the ASEAN region and the world.

Appreciating the fact that the Minister and the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam directly signed the Agreement on promoting bilateral trade between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Cambodia for the period of 2025-2026, the Prime Minister said that this is an important legal document, facilitating trade through tariff incentives, exploiting the complementarity of the two economies, strengthening supply chain connectivity, creating a foundation for the two countries to soon achieve the target of 20 billion USD in turnover in the coming time.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People’s Party have the same origin as the Indochinese Communist Party. The two countries and peoples supported each other in the resistance war for national independence and cooperated and stood side by side in the later national construction.

The Prime Minister was pleased to see that the relationship of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability" between the two countries has been constantly consolidated and developed comprehensively; in particular, the bilateral economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have developed strongly in recent years, continuing to be a bright spot in the picture of cooperation between the two countries, with the trade turnover of the two countries reaching more than 10 billion USD, 5 years ahead of the target.

It is said that recently the three leaders of the three Parties of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos met, followed by a meeting between the Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos; the three sides affirmed solidarity, closeness, sharing difficulties and continuing to foster the relationship between the three Parties, States and people of the three countries to be increasingly sustainable; supporting each other in building an independent, self-reliant, proactive economy, actively integrating deeply, practically and effectively. The Prime Minister requested the Ministries of Trade and Industry of Vietnam and Cambodia to continue to concretize high-level agreements; learn, support and complement each other; promote connectivity between the two economies, infrastructure connectivity, especially transport infrastructure, trade and investment, so that the two countries can develop together and so that the people of the two countries can enjoy the fruits of this development.

Through the Minister, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent New Year greetings to King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen, CPP President Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet and senior Cambodian leaders.
